Explain The Ways People Who Helped Make A Difference In Your Community
Think about the time that you’ve helped make a difference in your community. There are some ways you and a group could help the elderly and make your community better.

One way you and a group could help the community is by taking sometime and visiting the elderly at the nursing home. It would help retired men and women because they wouldn’t feel lonely and would have someone to talk to. Therefore helping the elderly helps the community by keeping people happy. For example, last year the community church and I went to the nursing home and handed out gift baskets to make the elderly people delighted and know that people do care about them.

In conclusion visiting the elderly could change their lives and make the community a better place.

    I began volunteering at Morningside House of Laurel since my freshmen year of high school. I normally volunteer on weekends for three hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. When I arrive, the residents are cozily relaxed in the warm lounge, where I greet them “good morning.” I walk straight ahead and pass through the double doors to where the early dementia and Alzheimer’s residents are, known as the Memory Lane. Communicating with the early dementia and Alzheimer's residents is difficult due to their immobilities and due to my fear of making them feel uncomfortable. Hence, I took small gradual steps each time. I do activities with them, such as playing volleyball with a balloon. Such activities engages them by refreshing their mind and glistens their face with happiness. Over time, when they became comfortable with my presence, I learned how to communicate effortlessly with them without having to force conversation.     I interviewed three residents that I’ve befriended since being employed at the facility. First, Nancy spoke to me about how she doesn’t really feel that moving into a nursing home abridged her sense of privacy or independence. She believes this is so because she had a large part in deciding when it was time to move and where she wanted to go. She mentions that this isn’t always the case for each resident at the home. Next, I chatted with Maria about her experience in NLC. Maria told me that she believes moving into NLC was the right decision after her husband, Norman, passed away several years ago. She wanted to have more opportunities to be social with people and keep her mind sharp. She is satisfied that she is capable of completing this since she resides of NLC. She stresses the importance of keeping your mind sharp. She tells me that she does this by walking daily. I can tell that her method of exercise is working. In addition to, I conversed with Martin about his experience at Nazareth. He has been residing at Nazareth for nearly four years now. He tells me that him and his wife, Ruth, were one of the first couples to move in. He remarked that being involved in the servers’ lives such as asking what they’re studying in school challenges him to understand how the youth live today.
