In the short story “A White Heron”, the birds and Sylvia are an important motif to the story. Sylvia is an important motif because she’s the main character and how her actions could affect the white heron. I feel the theme of the story is nature versus mankind because when the stranger arrives it’s to find the white heron bird. He’s looking for the white heron bird so he can kill and preserve it. And he wants help from Sylvia since she knows the woods very well and has seen all the types of animals that live there. But she’s not sure about telling the stranger where the heron bird is at. She is indecisive in what to do since she’s being offered money but she finds beauty in nature and animals so she doesn’t understand why somebody would want…

People wonder and try to guess what made me the way I am today. I’ve been confronted by elderly strangers, being asked the same question almost every time. Questions like: “Why are you so nice?”, “Why are you so different from others?”, and “Why is the way you dress unique?” I give them all the same answers, I tell them I am who I am today because of my past experience. I never go into details about telling people what my past experience was that made me who I am today, but at the inner most part of my mind I knew that it was because of my past experience in boarding school and the influence my mom had on me at that time of my life that made me who I am today.…

I was walking past the great forests of Tree Land and thinking to myself ‘Where are all the trees?’ So I walked up to the only tree left and asked “Where is your family?” The tree didn’t reply but stood there still slowly starting to shed its leaves. I went closer and whispered to it “Don’t you worry, I’ll help you find the kidnapper.” I moved forward and saw someone loading log-wood into his truck. I quickly went up to him and “You are under arrest!” The strange man started laughing hilariously. I said “You are arrested in the charge of kidnapping and murdering the tree family.” The strange man continued to laugh and drove off the forest. I went back to the only lonely tree left and said “I promise to get you back your family with all the more happiness.” I left the forest and went to a nursery and bought some two hundred seedlings. Without wasting any time I called up all my schoolmates and asked them to reach the forest as fast as possible and with as much water as they could carry. On reaching the forest I found most of my schoolmates waiting there with a tank full of water. They were anxious and were waiting for me to say the reason for such a meeting. I told them the whole incident and we together decided to build up the forest again. Everyone was given ten seedlings and five buckets of water. We completed our planting till dusk and waving a goodbye to the tree we left because the sky had been cloudy all day long. After almost a week I came back to the forest and saw the “only tree left” of the last week green and shady. I went and was about to hug the tree just when it dropped an apple, a deep red apple on me, as a sign of gratitude. I hugged the tree and waved a goodbye to it while it was swaying its leaves to…

I attended the funeral with my grandmother, as it was for her aunt and I felt it would be beneficial if she attended with someone. On the way to the funeral I had no idea what I was about to experience. On the way out I remember feeling very weird about what all had taken place.…
