Exp 105 Week 5 Discussion 2
My Feelings about Online Learning My feelings about online learning have changed. I was so scared that this would be too hard for me and that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Boy was I wrong. This is grate. I am learning so much and it is not anything like I thought it would be. I thought it would be me, all by myself with a book, pen and paper. My expectations of my instructor and classmates have been exceeded. You guys have been so amazing and helpful. It has been way better than a classroom setting were we really don’t get to talk much.
The Most Important Things I have Learned
Netiquette: I feel that netiquette is something everyone should use online. It is so important to respect others and there feelings and to be a remodel online. I will be sure to use me netiquette online from now on. I know that when I get on Face book and see people bashing others, it makes me angry. I will be sure to try to tell them how I feel about there behavior in a way that wont further upset them and try to help them see that what they have said may not have been appropriate.
Sighting: I will use what I have learned, about sighting my work to make sure I don’t plagiarize anyone. I want to make sure others get credit for there work.
My Thoughts One thing I feel went well for me is writing and my assignments. I have always been good at putting my words on paper and making them sound good. I would like to get better at my Guided Peer Responses. It still makes me a little nerves to talk to people I don’t know. I will use goal setting, self motivation and my will to succeed to make sure I am successful at getting my degree at Ashford

An environmental law that is relevant to my current and future employer, which is myself since I am self-employed, is the Clean Air Act (CAA). As a fitness professional I conduct personal training, small group training and outdoor fitness boot camp classes during nearly ¾ of any given year. Obviously I cannot predict air pollution in the same way EPA experts can but I do have firsthand experience of conducting these various fitness activities outdoors in cities where air pollution was considerably higher than other metropolitan areas in the country, and how participants fared. By relating my fitness business to environmental air pollution may seem like a stretch but please consider that I taught outdoor classes in New York City just weeks following the September 11th attacks. The air was rancid, smelled like a demolition site (which I am very familiar with having grown-up with a father who ran a demolition company), and the mixture of fumes and unrecognizable stench, made commuting in the area difficult, let alone participation in high-level cardiovascular exercises. “The Clean Air Act, which was last amended in 1990, requires EPA to set National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for wide-spread pollutants from numerous and diverse sources considered harmful to public health and the environment. The Clean Air Act established two types of national air quality standards. Primary standards set limits to protect public health, including the health of at-risk populations such as people with pre-existing heart or lung disease (such as asthmatics), children, and older adults. Secondary standards set limits to protect public welfare, including protection against visibility impairment, damage to animals, crops, vegetation, and buildings. The Clean Air Act requires periodic review of the science upon which the standards are based and the standards themselves” (EPA, 2013). Obviously air standards were not top priority during the initial weeks…

For this week's discussion I chose to focus on the importance of mentorship in nursing. This will focus on identifying the characteristics of mentors that have (or could be) most successful in recruiting and training diverse nurses and nurse faculty. At my facility me and another fellow nurse are head of our units mentoring program. This program that we have implemented focuses on the new graduated nurse and follows them through their first year of nursing. The new graduated nurse is paired up with a seasoned day shift and night shift nurse to answer any questions, facilitate a mentor-new graduate relationship and help orient the new nurse and try to build a strong, confident nurse. We routinely once a month see that the new nurse and their mentor meet to see how thing are going and see if they have any problems or concerns whether it be clinical skills, problems with other staff/physicians, prioritizing, and task management. Through this we are hoping to be able to increase morale, patient satisfaction and increase nurse retention. As new nurses enter the workforce they face a challenge going from student nurse to professional nurse. One must be prepared mentally, physically and emotionally to be a mentor and to set a productive learning environment for the new graduate.…

Transformative learning is basically changing the way one thinks, feels, acts, and sees life now, as opposed to the past. It can have a small or huge impact on the way they see different aspects of their life. The four stages of the transformative learning process are: Recognizing a specific problem – this is when one would decide if there is a need for change. They would recognize that there is a problem and specifically what it is. Confronting the problem intensely – They would then avoid apprehension and immediately confront the problem, while remembering to consider all possible solutions. In this step, using critical thinking would be of great value. Finding a solution to the problem - Here they would evaluate and reflect upon the situation while trying to identify the cause. Once identified, they would consider the steps needed to attempt to solve it. Integrating a new perspective and a new set of assumptions into your life – Last but not least they would see how their views have or have not changed. They would decide how they would handle the situation should they find themselves there again. Also, see what questions they could ask themselves to try and not make the same mistake.…

In the scene “Barrels” Jaws (1975), of the three categories music was more prominent than any other. There were several conversations as well. When anyone thinks of Jaws, they think of the music. It creates a sense of danger, suspense, and apprehension. The music in this scene works well with the dialogue, lighting, and continuity of editing. Goddykoontz and Jacobs (2011) describe music as being “a crucial part of the movie-going experience” (Sec. 6.4; papa. 18).…

The study of logic can aid us understand the advantages of critical thinking and reasoning. It also helps us create valid points in order to make a quality argument. “Logic examines the structure and content of arguments, and helps describe various kinds of arguments. It also evaluates those arguments, seeing why good arguments work and why bad arguments fail,” it says in our textbook ( Mosser, 2011, Sec. 1.1). When I reflect about the debate over whether prayer should be allowed in public school automatically refer to my faith. Unfortunately this is not logical but more personal. This is why the topic is such a sensitive one. Although we all have our own beliefs we cannot force prayer on someone else. At the same time, we should not tell someone that they cannot prayer. If we keep our thoughts unbiased on both sides of an argument we can better understand each other based on the premises and the conclusion. My mom always said there is a logical reason for everything. There are arguments all around us. It states in our text that, “Logic cannot guarantee that we will win all of our arguments, but it can help us determine when we have good reasons for something and when we do not.” (Mosser, 2011, Sec.1.3). Using logic basically allows us to recognize a suitable debate, the kind of argument, and what reasons may or may not be applicable to the conclusion. Besides that, we need facts to be put into an argument to determine truth. Just because an argument is valid does not necessarily mean it is…

When I first decided I would retake my college studies after over fifteen years of not taking a studying book in my hands, little did I know what the process had in stock for me. It all started one day at work while talking to some fellow co-workers about a NEW JOB posting position which represented a huge OPPORTUNITY of professional growth. I knew I had the knowledge, the expertise and the guts to do the job successfully. Nevertheless, I also knew that since it was a management position I would need a college degree, which I didn’t have. So, I decided not to let this situation back me down. Instead, I took matters in my hands and enrolled in an online course with expectancy and determination. When I finally started taking the courses I felt a little lost mainly because after a long day of work all I wanted was to rest and finish the modules as fast as I could, but I was determined and engaged in overcoming a barrier that was retrieving me from my professional goals. After a while and many tries I discovered that by reading, following instructions and cordially contacting the professors I would be on my way to overcome my first day as an online student. After that first day, the rest fell in to place. I managed to develop a schedule and make a balance between my professional, educational and personal life. Though I do have to admit it’s not easy and at times I feel like quitting, one thought crosses my mind “The best fighter is not the one who always wins, but the one who turns into battle without fear…” Dolores Ibarruri. I will…
