Summary Description of Activities

Over the course of this summer semester I have been exposed to many new learning experiences and opportunities. I am most thankful for the supervisor that I had at my agency, and the group of students that I have worked with this summer. This summary will be a rap out/ outline of some of the things that I have participated in this summer. I attended my agency four days out of the week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and on Fridays. On Wednesdays I participated

I was under the strict supervision of Mrs. Eunice Torbert. I was prompted from the first day on out how to be a better student and for future references, a great social worker. I went over the policies for long term care facilities on the fist day that I spent at my agency, but before I was able to interact with any of the residents, I had to follow policy, which was to pass drug test, TB skin test, and a background test.

My supervisor gave me the opportunity to learn the ways of a good social worker, and the importance of being a professional at all times. I did not shadow my supervisor, as nurses do in their field, I actually did work and tasks that were assigned to me. These tasks were very strenuous, some more than others, but I was able to get through them successfully. I was giving the opportunity to work with the residents hand and hand. Working with the residents was the perfect opportunity for me to gain experience in the long term facility.

The first was spent working with the children from the Safe Haven Program. We spent time with the children of this program for the beginning weeks of the summer semester. We sold tomato plants at the Farmer’s Market along with the children from this program, which had grown these plants on the Tuskegee University farm. While working with the children from the local YMCA, we had the children participate in arts and crafts projects, as well as games and other activities. I had the opportunity to spend one Wednesday at the Auburn University’s farm, which was the agency of three of my peers. While visiting their agency we had the chance to harvest vegetables and volunteer at the food

I am Ethan Ritz and a current 9th grader at Milken. For Service Learning this year, I was a Counselor in Training at Camp VBS for two weeks of the summer. A meaningful experience I had while being a CIT was playing with the kids in the pool. They loved the attention and the activities we played. I would give them a piggy back ride around the pool and if they wanted would throw them in the air. This always put a huge smile on their faces. One kid even said, “That was awesome!” when I threw him in the air. I loved making each kids day at camp even better.…

For this project, we were given four topics to write about. Those four topics were a practitioner interview, criminal court visit, police ride-along and a visit to a correctional facility. As much as I would have loved to go on a police ride-along I choose to obtain a practitioner interview. We were given the option to interview someone involved in the criminal justice system ranging from a police officer, attorney, judge or even a current inmate or someone that has served time before. I chose to write my paper or a former inmate named Kyle Stevens. Mr. Steven’s is actually one of my cousins we’ve lived right next to each other for most of both of your lives. Mr. Steven’s has had a rough life, he grew up primary with his father until he was…

I hope that during my four years as a cadet, I will be able to draw parallels with my earlier experiences, and deal with the challenges of Swab Summer and cadet life the same way that I have dealt with previous challenges. However, as odd as it sounds after everything I have written about structure, I hope that much of what I encounter during four years at the Academy would be new and surprising, because as I learned three and a half years ago, sometimes one can thrive when presented with the…

On Friday, August 21th, the day of Orientation, my journey began. I was enthusiastic and skittish at the time but also a little sad because i knew my summer had come to an end. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach move around as we getting closer and closer to my future high school. Finally, I had reached my destination LVCP. The first thing that popped out when I stepped foot on campus was seeing the painting in the front of the…

In tenth grade, I went on a missions trip with my church to Mink Lake, which is a camp by the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota. During the missions trip, we prepared a camp for the summer. Some of my personal jobs were to help clean out two sheds and reorganize them, haul logs, and trim trees all over the camp. The trip benefitted myself and the other people on the missions trip because we were able to help people have a fun experience at camp over the summer, and we also helped the people running the camp to not have to work so hard to prepare the camp for the summer campers. Another reason it was a good experience for all of us workers is because we did not have our cell phones, so we were able to form new relationships with each other since we were not constantly distracted by our…

The third program I helped with was a soccer tournament that my fellow Bhutanese immigrants organized between teams from other states. As I volunteered there, I helped prepare food for the players, I picked up the trash, and I gave water to the players after the game. The purpose of the soccer tournament was to have fun and enjoy playing sports. I would like to join a soccer team when I go to high school. In the future, I would like to volunteer in a program that helps people who are facing cancer.…

Alliyah Grey grows up in Jamaica in a middle-class family; going to church was one of the things she looked forward on doing on Sundays. She became a Christian on her second year in college and this is what made her who she is today. She prayed each and every time she got the opportunity to do so and through prayer and fasting she is a successful college graduate. Alliyah enjoys traveling and meeting new people ever since she was a child. The most important thing to her is her family, without her family she would’ve to be 100% behind. She has quite a few strength and quality, but she would probably say her greatest strength is her reliability. Part of her reliability…

I have volunteered at Woodland Park After School Care Program, where I was a counselor for kindergarten to 2nd graders. During my time as a volunteer, I helped children with their reading homework. I helped them read stories and answer wh- questions according to the story. I have worked at a summer camp in the summer of 2015 for two months. From the morning until the noon, I was a counselor for children in 5th grade to 8th grade. My mornings consisted playing a sport with the children and then arts and crafts. From the noon until the end of camp I was a one-on-one counselor for a child with Autism. I was responsible for planning out her afternoons specifically for her. I made sure she had time to play in the playground, sandbox (which she loved),…
