James Holmes is portrayed as evil, described as being an animal, as well as being severely mentally ill. He compares with the stereotype of other mass shooters because all mass shooters have a well thought out plan on what they do and where they go once they commit the crime and that is exactly what he did. The one thing that separates him from the exact stereotype is that he was completely calm and felt no need to rush even when he was approached by law enforcement as he was taking his time to get away from the scene. James Holmes basically committed premeditated manslaughter. This man absolutely fits the profile associated with shooters. To begin with, the man was already not mentally stable and he committed such a heinous…

The Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers owned selections #1 and #2, and both teams needed a quarterback. Indy GM Bill Polian made the call, settling on Peyton over Ryan Leaf. Head coach Jim Mora wasted no time turning the offense over to his rookie. Peyton took the reigns in minicamp and impressed the Indy staff by making only one bad throw in three days. Peyton finally agreed on a lucrative six-year deal, the richest in NFL rookie history. The bright spot was the chemistry that Peyton developed with Harrison. Both were workout freaks. They spent long hours on the practice field together, and by the end of the season, they were in perfect sync. Peyton seemed to go to Harrison whenever he needed a big completion. The Syracuse product caught 59 passes, seven for touchdowns. In 2000, after moving ahead 14-0 early in the contest, Indy fell apart and lost 23-17 in overtime. Polian selected receiver Reggie Wayne in the first round of the draft in2001, even though Indy clearly needed players on the defensive line. Giving Peyton another option on the outside was an intriguing prospect…

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was written in the year 1885, a time when women were primarily kept at home providing the cooking and cleaning for the household. While they were doing those things, the man of the house was doing a job to receive money. A woman’s main job was to provide the home with children while also taking care of the home. Men in this time period believed women to be under or below them because they thought all they had to do was have children and take care of a home, which was considered “lesser work”. Women were viewed as subordinate to their husbands because the men considered women’s work below them. If a woman was not married with children they were considered an outcast of society. In the novel, Mark…

The film The "Mammy" Stereotype of Black Women in Ethnic Notions shows an important era for Black people in television. The film show how black people were first seen in television, cartoons depicting how black people look: with the big lips, big buttocks and very dark skin. This image of black people was damaging as it was showing that black people had dark skin and big lips and buttocks. The cartoons in my opinion and the first imagery they showed of black people was insulting, however on the other had it was a great start for black people to get jobs even though the people in the North according to the film were angry as they were losing jobs because of black people moving to the inner cities. In the film black males were most dominate than female actors and they…

Throughout our life time, we’ve either been stereotyped or have stereotyped a person according to their wealth and or job ethnics. You’re believed to belong in one of the following groups, poor, working-class, middle-class, or the top 1%. Many people try to convince themselves that just because you not wealthy or financially stable, that you will never make it far in life. In the article “Seeing and Making Cultural: Representing the Poor”, bell hooks talks about “how the media will always have a big influence on how society portrays poverty, weather your part of the poor, working class, or middle-class, you will always be frowned upon by a more supreme group of people” (bell hooks 1). Study shows how only 1% of the people in America have enough money to end poverty and end world hunger.…

Many people would say that the ABC series Once Upon a Time is a lousy show, is unrealistic, and does not make sense or follow a good storyline; but over its first six seasons, Once Upon A Time has stolen my heart time and time again for many reasons. These writers and the creators of this show Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have re-created many people's favorite scenes from their favorite movies like Prince Charming finding snow white and Waking her up with true love's kiss, or beauty and the beast dancing together, and they brought so many favorite and new characters to the show unlike anything before. The writers changed classical fairy tale stereotypes, they give the villains a chance at happy endings, and a deeper backstory than usual,…

For as long as I can remember, the concept that African American people are expected and assumed to act differently because of our race has often left me bewildered. On multiple occasions, I've been told by both my African American and Caucasian peers in school that I was "acting white" because I was articulate, and I took my education seriously. Making assumptions about how a person should think or act based on their race pigeonholes both the person making the generalization and the person being generalized. It says that based on our skin color, we must accept certain stereotypes about ourselves no matter how wrong they are. For me, education is important, as I see it as a gateway to a better future; for this reason, I do not compromise my…

    Stereotypes and Athlete

Stereotypes are different thoughts that a variation of people hold about people who are different from them. A stereotype can be associated with a single word or slogan; such as nerd, or jock. Stereotypes can be expressed in either a negative or positive way. Most people apply stereotypes in a negative way to make them feel more superior over others. The category that most people would place me under would be the classification of an athlete or jock. The jock title that I have been placed under has been with me pretty much my entire life. I have played sports since I was four years old when I first started playing soccer and tee ball. From that moment on I have been active in almost every sport that my school has to offer. In high school the title was strongly addressed to me when the upper classmen did not know who I was. They would refer to me as the freshmen softball player or the soccer goalie. I have held the title strongly for a very long while. Even though I do not play sports now in college I still get asked if I play sports just because of the way I dress; I guess when you are just use to having that title it sticks with you. The category of a jock can possess many different stereotypes from dumb jock, lesbians, and also stuck up popular kids and many more.…
