Examplification Essay
Having a part-time job would be a resourceful experience while being a college student. Most students that go to college will move out of their parents or guardians house, into the dorms at the school. This process will help the students learn more about the “adult life”, that they will learn through their college years. One of the most important reasons, is while learning how to manage school and work, the student will cope to handling different types of situations. Also if the student doesn’t participate in any of the activities at school, such as sororities, fraternities, or clubs, having any kind of job would help with free time. Even being a full time student could be difficult at first, but in the long run having a part-time job would help the student in different ways. For example, I am a full time student at Shorter University, and I have a job as being a waitress, at Jefferson’s Restaurant. I have lived on my own for two years now, and started back to school this year. I already had a job before I started at Shorter University. So it was harder adjusting to the social life of school than it was for work. I have to work to pay my bills. So having a job in general really helps me in learning responsibility. Sometimes it gets real hard, because instead of having time to study some nights, I have to close at the Jeffersons. But instead of procrastinating on the weekends, I set time apart for my studying I have to do. But once I got into the routine of time management, I felt more mature and responsible than I was before I had a job. While being a student, most colleges provide activities and clubs that they can join. For example, sororities are available for woman and fraternities are available for males. Also clubs such as chess club, science club, or activities such as flag football. But it is possible for those enrolled in either of these events, to apply for a part-time job. The student will learn time management skills, and ways to make time for school and work. Because as a college graduate, they will hopefully have a career and start a family, and will adapt better to the lifestyle if they had a part-time job during college. Another important reason why a part-time job is a good experience for a college student is because it teaches them the basics of the “adult life”. When having a job, such as a waitress or even bagging groceries for the local grocery store, the student will learn how to better their working skills. Going through college the student will already have the responsibility of showing up to class on time without mom or dad being the alarm clock. But having a job or even a part time job would help the student learn how to juggle being at school, and also showing up at work on time. Once graduating from college, the student will be more experienced if they worked at a part time job, than just going to school and focusing on work. They will already have the basic skills down that they will need to pursue the needs and tasks that will be asked out of them. Even if the jobs were not even close to being alike, it will help make the student more mature. Having a part- time job would be an important experience for any college student. Especially in progressing in their work skills and responsibility, for when the student will reach their soon to be life career. Going from high school to college is a dramatic change. But going from college to the rest of your life, is one of the hardest processes in life. So having a part-time job would help a college student learn the fundamentals of a work environment. It will also make the transition easier, from when a student goes from college to their chosen career.

Although having a part-time job may help a growing teen to be more independent, work ethic driven and more productive, it interferes with the school involvement of a teenager. Working long hours while attending school is just too much hard work for young adults to handle. Imagine getting home tired from a four-hour shift at work and still having homework to do after dinner and a shower. I’m sure some people can handle this for a week or so, but after that, they’ll get burnt out. Too much work leads to stress and eventually, working teen’s grades will drop. When their grades start dropping, they may cut back their course load and begin to avoid classes that require many hours of studying. In the article “Part-Time Work Ethic: Should Teens Go For It?,” Dennis McLennan cites evidence from a study of more than 500 working and non-working students at four Orange County (California) high schools, “part-time employment during the…

All of the positives about having a part-time job have one big caveat. Students cannot usually be employed more than 20 hours per week or their grades begin to suffer, they do less homework, and they are more likely to drop out (Gisler & Eberts, 2016). Your grades could suffer more if you were without a job than if you had a job during school. The busier you are, the more focused you become. Working really makes you more structured; you have a lot of things to do in a short amount of time, so it’s important to keep up with it all (Laskowski, 2009). So, if they get paid for grades and don’t get a job because you don’t have to, you won’t be structured as if you had a…

“It has been suggested that, even though non-traditional students are more apt to work full time, these students are not affected by working, commuting, or time limitations because they have more experience at time management” (Lundberg, 2003). Working forty hours a week and being a full-time mom I know all too well about having to time manage everything. Already being in the field of work, I know the importance of deadlines and time management. Taking away extracurricular activities and applying that time to other things can allow you to find extra time to put towards more important things. However, it is still important to allow yourself to enjoy some freedom or allowing downtime.…

Out of those 80% approximately 22% are working 20-34 hours per week. (Smith). Reading such information made me wonder if working full-time jobs would be detrimental or beneficial to a college student’s academic career.…

Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.…
