• What is the most significant thing you learned this week?
In my reading this week, I found three things that stood out as significant. I find leadership and conflict training to be interesting and enjoyable. the text gives us the encouragement for this same thing, this can be accomplished in several ways. In my experience, the most frequent reason people choose to participate in conflict and leadership development workshops and seminars is that they have been referred by others. (Runde)
Most people claim to be good listeners. There are college courses, training workshops, books, and videos extolling the virtues of effective listening. Everyone knows how important listening is for effective interpersonal communication.

I find this class to be one of the best learning times in my education at Trevecca Nazarene University. My thinking, as it relates to conflict has come a long way, I would say I have been a good personality under conflict, however, this class has given me depth, and insight I would not ordinarily had in the past. I can see how this class would being anyone to a better understanding of conflict. My thinking is more of a better understanding of the principles of conflict. I find myself looking into the idea of conflict and for once, I do not dread what might come. Taking the time to study conflict and how people respond and analyzing where we would come out in the end gives me great …show more content…
I would say it is a good first step in guiding an individual in navigating conflict. One must be in preparation for conflict and one class will not make us a master of conflict, however, it is a good start and will take most of us further than we would have gone out there on our own. I have already asked a couple people on my church board to begin reading the text of this class, taking these text and spreading the word we will be talking about how we handle conflict is something I believe is passing on what we have learned.
• How will I use (or have I used) this knowledge in my life?
I will use this material and to expand my conflict resolution skills to add value to others. One thing that really stands out in my reading this week was, “If you can get people to admit that first impressions can be and perhaps often are wrong, it helps them open up to alternative explanations. In effect, it makes it easier for them to use cognitive reappraisal.” (Runde & Flanagan,(2007) This ideas has begun and process with in me that I believe will be used for years to come, understanding that many of my first impressions are not the ones I should have or should settle on will be a grand concept that will change my

Week three was highlighted by the discussion of fixed assets and the use of accounting for depreciation of those assets. Businesses utilize depreciation of their fixed assets to take advantage of the tax breaks that they receive. The cost of depreciation of assets lowers the taxable income of a company and in turn allows either a higher refund or less owed in taxes. Another option that is available is the use of accelerated depreciation. This option allows for companies to accelerate the depreciation of assets to a current year's return to gain a higher tax break. The use of this tool is usually implemented in times of economic turmoil to stimulate the economy.…

Learning to communicate efficiently and manage conflict successfully is challenging. Gaining cooperation between people is complex and mentally demanding. Communication ways and conflict styles are deeply woven into our personalities. Conflict is the expressed struggle of interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, interference from the other party in achieving those goals, and the perception of scarce resources. Perceptions are just as important as reality in regards to conflict. As stated in the text, “we encounter conflict as we compete for acceptance, love, recognition, position, power, success, and many other goals. Judgments of the quality of conflict interaction depend on the perceptions and evaluations of the nature of the process and its outcomes by those affected” (McKinney, Kimsey, Della Noce, & Trobaugh, p.2).…

I really enjoyed participating and learning about America’s dynamic political policies. This class was very useful and I have used the social, cultural, political, governmental and economic prism method to dissect numerous policy topics for other classes. The format encouraged class discussion and it was engaging to hear what other students thought on hot topic issues. I also believe this course taught me how to have more meaningful political conversations by learning how to refrain from personal political ideology and rhetoric.…

This week I have learned lot from Visualizing Learning from Chapters 3, 13, and 14. All the vocabulary words and meaning through pictures all made sense after reading and the examples that were used. I had no difficulty with any of the terms that were used in each of these chapters. I have learned a lot especially in Chapter 14 with Cognitive Therapy and Goals of Psychotherapy. They were self-explanatory and had great examples next to them to help steer me in the right direction. I tend on using what I know out in the real world as well. This week opened my eyes to a lot. In Chapter 15, learning about empathy-altruism hypothesis and egoistic model of altruism, meaning if we had more people in the world that act this way, then there would be less selfish people out there. With different types of therapy out there people do not have excuses on why there is no help at all. Knowing the right people can get you the right help.…

Graduates should come with a toolbox full of different ways of living with, working through, and managing conflict. It’s not enough to teach or talk about civility as an abstract concept. Part of being successful at small talk is being an avid listener. This is a very important part of conversation. Many get worried about being able to communicate their thoughts clearly that they neglect to listen. Listening carefully helps in understanding and encouraging those who are speaking to you. This week was much calmer compared to last week. Friday the 15th marked the beginning of my second week interning. It was really nice seeing the same face over again for a change. I am begging to know where everything is. Which is beyond a relief to me because it is important for me to know where all supplies are located in the artroom. Also it makes it easier for me to help Ms. Shaw. I really feel Ms. Shaw and I work well together. She is very inviting, informative and easy to work with. This week my biggest lesson I learned is flexibility is key. A little girl named Imagine was given an art piece to finish that was not hers. By this time all projects had been handed out and most students were already working on them.…
