The quote is meaning that the technology is not cutting teenagers off from society, but it was actually bringing them closer and allowing them to connect. Teenagers can be more open when they are behind a screen, it is almost like false sense of security. From personal experience, it was easier to tell someone what was wrong or a certain situation because there was that opportunity to put down every thought. Technology brings teenagers closer to one another. Sometimes, in intimate ways. There are about 49,250,000 people who have tried online dating (Harden). Imagine the percent of those people who are teenagers. Technology has given teenager the opportunity to find someone who has common interests as them and potentially be with someone who is farther away than they would expect. This is the same with teenagers and technology. Not every teenager uses the internet in the same exact way. Some may use it for games, homework, friends, or even just for family members. Saying that all teenagers are too digitally connected, is not a correct claim. Experiences are different for everyone and to generalize each experience is not accurate.
