Examples Of Preschool Observation
For my fourth observation of Jaelee, I was looking to see if she can follow through with one clear, simple direction. When I went to her class, she was outside playing. She played out in the playground for a while and then Ms. Reta asked the children to line up to go back inside. Ms. Reta had to ask Jaelee once and she got in line; she followed directions so well that Ms. Reta had her get a toy drum and had her hit the drum while screaming line up to the other children. Jaelee really enjoyed helping her teacher in getting the children lined up.
After the children went in the room Ms. Reta had them sit in a circle and told them that they had a choice of activities that they can do. She said that they can paint, read, play doctor or play with clay. Jaelee chose to go play doctor, were she gave me a shot and put a Band-Aid over the area where she gave me the shot. We played doctor for a while, then she decided to go draw. Before she could go draw Ms. Reta asked her to clean up where she was playing and put up the Band-Aids. Jaelee did as she was asked without having to be asked again.
Then we went over to the art area and Jaelee drew some pictures. I helped her draw a flower, face and a star. Then it was time to clean up, and Jaelee went around helping her classmates put things away. But when she got back

Before Ms. Reta started the story she put in a cd of a bear hunt song/ activity. The cd was about going on a bear hunt, were the children would pretend to be walking around looking for a bear. Jaelee participated and listened and followed directions while doing this activity. There is a part in the bear hunt were they find the bear and the kids have to run away from the bear. For that part Jaelee, had so much fun she turned around and looked at me with a big smile on her face and laughing while she was pretending to run away from the

Jaelee really enjoys having stories read to her. She pays attention to the stories during story time in her classroom. Jaelee’s behavior has changed from my first observation of her. The first day I observed Jaelee she could not sit still and had a hard time focusing and listening to her teachers. Jaelee has never displayed that type of behavior again when I would go to see her. Her teacher Ms. Reta had said if someone is giving Jaelee attention she does not act out, it is only when she does not get attention does she misbehave. This is the reason I have not seen Jaelee misbehave when I am there. When I am not there Ms. Reta has told me that Jaelee still has a hard time doing what she is told, especially during nap time.…

Tommy is sitting on the floor with his toys around him. His teacher sits on the floor next to him and he begins to hand his teacher a series of toys. He is interested in the reaction of his teacher as he hands her his blocks, one by one. Tommy leans forward, grabs a block and hands it to his teacher. He watches her face and sort of drops his mouth open as he waits for her reaction. She then tells him the letter and color on the block. He nods his head forward and then reaches for another block and proceeds to pick up another block. After picking up 5 blocks and handing them to his teacher he then crawls across the floor to a toy car and pushes it for a moment. He looks up at his teacher to see what she is doing and pushes the car toward her. He smiles at her and she smiles back and says “Is that your car?” he smiles again and nods his head forward. Tommy is very interested in his teacher’s reaction to him. She continues to watch him even when he is interested in a toy or moving away from her. He does check to see if she is pay attention to him as he plays. His teacher starts picking up toys and organizing the room and he periodically goes over to her and becomes interested in what she is doing. Tommy seems very dependent on his teachers mood. He smiles when she smiles and if she is distracted he wants to obtain her attention and seems to gauge and react to her facial expressions. It seems that their relationship is positive and his teacher is very…

Although I prefer to teach a Kindergarten class and not go over the Second grade, I know that teachers never get a pick of what grades you teach sometimes. So I am glad that I am able to gain experience in each grade level.…

In order for one to gain an understanding of an early childhood environment, one must put them inside one. People really do not understand what takes place everyday if they do not sit back and observe the interaction amongst the children and the staff. I observed a class at A Child's World- Doylestown. A Child's World is located at 2001 South Easton Road, Doylestown, PA 18901. The building is brand new, they just moved in June 2003, however A Child's World has been in business for 10 years and they have two other locations, Newtown and Oxford Valley.…

I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The classroom is very appropriate for children this age and it has many interesting areas such as a blocks and art area, and children taped some of their previous work in the art area. The color of the class is bright and has interesting posters like calendars with the name of children’s birthdays. Also. There is a toys area that has toys suitable for both boys and girls like cars, animals, and doll. There is a reading area with a little amount of children’s books and stories in reachable…

While observing the lab preschool her on campus at Central Michigan University I learned a lot. I saw a variety of things from the teachers and staff being concentrated on the children, explaining directions multiple times, to having an organized agenda planned out ahead. I observed from 12-12:35 which was in the middle of lunch so I saw the kids eat lunch, play with toys and climb on the rock wall, and the beginning of small group activities. The lunch room where I observed was a big open room which was very organized and clean. Before the kids started eating the napkins and silver wear were all set out and ready for them while the food was brought to each table of 5 kids and a staff member after they washed their hands. While eating some…

Obiel Macedo, a one year and seven month old infant accomplished many tasks on the developmental checklist. I went to his house, his mother and baby sister were present while I was with him. As we sat down on the floor I handed the infant a small container filled with different size blocks. He immediately grabbed the container, poured out the blocks and began to build a tower quickly. Once he was done creating the tower of blocks, a few seconds later he knocked it down vigorously and started all over again. Then, I handed him a red crayon and a blank sheet of paper, but instead of writing on the paper he went up to the wall and scribbled spontaneously.…
