The patrimony of the treasure of troy is not well known. It is believed that a business man turnedarcheologist by the name Heinrich Schliemann discovered the treasure. Heinrichwas born in 1822 in Beubuckow, Germany, and his love for treasures came from childhood stories narrated clearly to him by his father about the City of troy. With this love, he purposed to achieve his dreams and get the treasures of Troy. He, nevertheless, could not realize this in his youth due to lack of money, andhe had to do some poorly payingjobs. His luck changed when he discoveredhis love for languages and managed to teachhimself English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian. Heinrich’s ease with which he learned different languages enabled him to land a good job in an import export firm. It was there that he acquired a small fortune that enabled him to start on his dream of finding the city of Troy where he believed;he wouldget Priam’s treasure (Krystek).

His father was a minister of religion; he had many siblings and his mother died in 1831, which resulted in Heinrich being sent to live with his uncle. Even before reaching the age of thirteen he seemed to have a strong interest in archaeology. He claimed in later life that by the age of eight he had already formed the ambition of excavating the city of Troy. In 1846 he was sent to St. Petersburg as a firm’s agent there, but he soon started his own business, and became rich from it. In 1850 he became an American citizen. He then returned to Russia, where he married, and, at the age of thirty-six, retired from business to devote his time and his great fortune to the study of prehistoric archaeology,…

In Book V of The Odyssey we come face to face with Odysseus for the first time. He is stranded and held captive on an island with the nymph goddess, Calypso. After the gods have gathered at Mount Olympus it has been decided that Odysseus must leave the island and continue his journey. Chosen by his father Zeus, Hermes is sent to give Calypso the news. Upon hearing Hermes’ news Calypso becomes enraged and gives an emotional rant on the unfair double standards the gods often act upon. She gives many examples of the goddesses who have been misled by the gods due to their affairs with mortal men. Calypso begins her rant, “You unrivaled lords of jealousy-scandalized when goddesses sleep with mortals”(5.131-132). She speaks of “chaste Artemis”(5.135) and “Demeter the graceful one”(5.137). Both goddesses had lost their mortals to the will of the gods. Like the goddesses before her, Calypso must now say goodbye to her mortal.…

Like other Homeric heroes, Odysseus longs to win kleos (“glory” won through great deeds), but he also wishes to complete his nostos (“homecoming”). He enjoys his luxurious life with Calypso in an exotic land, but only to a point. Eventually, he wants to return home, even though he admits that his wife cannot compare with Calypso. He thinks of home throughout the time he spends with the Phaeacians and also while on Circe’s island. Sometimes his glory-seeking gets in the way of his home-seeking, however. He sacks the land of the Cicones but loses men and time in the process. He waits too long in the cave of Polyphemus, enjoying the free milk and cheese he finds, and is trapped there when the Cyclops returns.…
