Examples Of Heroism In The Crucible
The real hero is always a hero by mistake, in my understanding this quote means, true acts of courage and bravery are always performed by people who do not intentionally set out to become heroes.
I agree with this quote because a person can become a hero without realizing the impact they cause to the people around them, like they didn’t know they were going to do it, they just did it. And I’ll use the play The Crucible to justify my position.

In the play The crucible, John Proctor one of the main characters displayed remarkable courage and heroism, John realizes that he must confess his sin of adultery to the courts, only to stop the fury in Salem. After he confesses, he encourages his wife to do the same, "Elizabeth, tell the truth! Elizabeth, I have confessed it!” He confesses his sin, and speaks those words, only because he is looking out for the good of the community, and others around him. He hates that his name is damaged, but feels that God will forgive him for it. Proctor accepted the truth for what it was, not because he had to, but because speaking words of truth are actions of an honest and prideful man, that’s why I consider him as a hero.

One thing was that he would not give Danforth the name of the person who told him that Thomas Putnam was trying to get rid of the people in the town so that he could buy their land when they were gone. This is what originally got him arrested. Later they charged him as a witch and he would not answer his indictment. Because he didn’t answer his indictment they could not charge him with being a witch. Therefore, he saved his name and his pride. You can kill him and his wife but you are not taking his property. ‘’more wait’’ were his lasts two

Umberto Eco’s quote, “The real hero is always a hero by mistake…” means that genuine heroes are not those who anticipate specific deeds in order to become a hero, but rather those individuals who are confronted with unexpected situations, and develop into accidental or unintentional heroes. People that have these characteristics should have no reason to be called heroes. Those characteristics would make them the so-called “hero by mistake”.…

A hero never does heroic actions just so people recognize and praise them. Many heroes are not even recognized for their actions, but that doesn’t stop them from continuing and doing the right things. For example, soldiers who are constantly fighting for our country. Not every single one of them end up on the news, or trend on twitter, but they don’t stop fighting for our country because of that. They know it is the right thing so therefore they will continue doing it, praised or not. As Tom Hanks said, “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.” Also a hero is not someone who gives up because of one obstacle. A hero is an individual who keeps going even in spite of the immense obstacle. For instance, in the poem, ‘A Man’, the poet describes a soldier who loses his arm while fighting for his country. In the beginning of her poem, she describes the soldier’s physical limitations from losing his arm, yet the soldier speaks of compensating for his physical disability with enthusiasm, “He set himself to do everything with twice as much enthusiasm. And where the arm had been torn away a wing grew” (Line 15). The first part dwells on the thought he can only do half of everything, such as a harvest, either tune or play an accompaniment on a piano, banging on a door, and holding his…

John Proctor is an honest, hardworking, good man except for his one flaw that became a downfall for him and other accused “witches” living in Salem. His lust for Abigail that led to an affair created jealousy towards his wife Elizabeth, and resulted in Abigail spreading lies and causing witch hysteria to arise. After the trials began, John realized that he could out Abigail and make everyone see her for what she was (a liar) and put an end to many innocent deaths by confessing to his adultery and proving Abigail was only extracting revenge on his wife Elizabeth Proctor. He tried to save his reputation through a testimony of Mary Warren without revealing his crucial information but it failed. When this happened he publicly proclaimed his guilt and confessed, calling Abigail Williams a whore, but his admission was too late and could not stop everything that Abigail had already set in motion. John’s penance only resulted in his arrest and conviction of a witch, and he feels culpable for allowing Abigail and her friends to take it as far as they did. In his final act, John Proctor still wants to save his name, but for personal and religious reasons, rather than pride and fear of the public's opinion. John was given the chance to concede and live, but he declined, which was a true private and religious stand. If he did attest it would dishonor those condemned that stood beside him, who were not afraid to die for the truth. A false admission would also dishonor him and his soul. By refusing to confess, Proctor proclaims that such integrity would bring him into heaven, and he goes to the gallows with his fellow prisoners, redeemed for his earlier…

    How Are Heroes Brave

Heroes are brave. They put their life on the line to save others. An example of this happened on December 3 when state trooper Michael J. Miles saved an unnamed 3 year old boy from his abductor, Michael Ramirez, who had taken him from his home. After Ramirez escaped the police's tail on him, he ran into the North Carolina forest where “Miles used his knowledge of the area to… approach him on foot” (Hero Trooper Saves 3 Year Old After Amber Alert 1). That is bravery. He put his fears aside so he could save a little boy because he knew that by the time people would come to help it could be too late. Without Miles’ bravery, that little boy might not be alive. Bravery, however, is not the only important quality of a hero.…

John Proctor is a very dynamic character in the Crucible. He is someone who appears to be righteous to the general public/townspeople but is actually someone who harbors a deep secret: he has committed adultery with Abigail. Proctor is one of the few in the play who firmly believes that Abigail and the girls are frauds and he is strongly against the witch trials. He knows that once he confesses to committing adultery, Abigail’s testimonies will be questioned and that he can save a lot of innocent people, but he is afraid of tainting his reputation of being a righteous man. At the end of Act III, he is found guilty of witchcraft and is arrested; in Act IV, he is given the chance to “confess” and save himself from hanging. He does end up confessing for Elizabeth and his children. However, when Danforth tells him to sign his name, Proctor agrees. Proctor no longer has his soul; his reputation is gone; all he has left is his name. He proclaims that “[he] cannot have another [name] in [his] life” and refuses to “sign [him]self to lies” to save himself (Miller 1333). He seems to have issues with his pride and his pride gets in the way of him saving himself. Although he admits he is not a hero, he dies with his integrity intact and his name still his. Arthur Miller displays how far people will go to keep their reputation and name clean through John Proctor’s character.…

This quote is certainly applicable to society, but is not completely true. The most common example of heroes that need to know when to “die” is demonstrated by heroes abusing their power. For instance, many political figures have been corrupted by the immense power they possess. Even though these individuals may be heroic at first, the power associated with being a hero can often corrupt an individual. This relates to Rogers quote since he believes that heroes need to know when to quit. If heroes were to…
