Smaug is the last major problem between the company and the treasure, and needs to be stopped in order for the treasure to go back to Thorin’s family. This would eventually lead to war over greed for the gold by Thorin. Something common in today's society is greed, greed for money, materialistic things, and other things. It’s become common, and is heard on the news often of people that could not keep it from happening, it leads to fights and other things, but the unlikely does happen sometimes and a accomplishment could come out of it.
