Round 4
(Joslyn Filo)
Narrator:
The speed dating must continue! Next up we have the heartbroken Evey. She has been longing for love ever since V died. Le--
*cuts off as Beowulf comes in while fighting and pushes the narrator aside*
Beowulf:
Sorry I’m late my beautiful maiden. *slashes the monster he is fighting, the monster falls on top of the coffee table*
Evey:
Uh...Evey, Evey Hammond. *lifts her hand out nervously to Beowulf for him to kiss it*
Beowulf:
It truly is my pleasure to meet you. I am THE almighty Beowulf! And I have come to sweep you right off your feet! I would fight ONE thousand battles for you to just acknowledge me! I bet it only helps that I’ve defeated Grendel.
Evey:
That’s..very...valourous.

*She moves aggressively to dodge a hit from grendel*
Beowulf:
Why would I need your help? You’re a WOMAN?
Grendel:
*in a scratchy voice*
Did you really think you saw the last of me? How dare you kill my mother!
Evey:
How dare you reject my help because I’m a woman!
Beowulf and Grendel:
AHHHHH *while wrestling*
Evey:
*Talking to herself while she grabs a stick off the ground from a broken chair*
Did Beowulf really just push my fighting skills away because I’m a woman?! Like really who does he think he is? Is he living in the Anglo-Saxon period? He’s really just another stupid guy, with big muscles, and an even bigger ego. Maybe I should teach him a lesson. One that will show him to never underestimate a woman again. I WILL defeat Grendel and show Beowulf exactly where he stands. Maybe V would like it if I use his favorite--explosives.
*a screeching scream comes from Grendel, followed by a grunt from Beowulf*
Beowulf:
Ha! Ha! Looks like I still got it!
Grendel:
For some reason I don’t think so!
*He pushes Beowulf off the stage*
Finally.
Evey:
AHHHHHH

Grendel wouldn't fight King Hrothgar because he was said to have God on his side. Having said this, Grendel planned to fight, and kill Beowulf (prince) without and struggle. As Grendel proceeded to the meet hall, he saw all of the soldiers resting in one, laughing he decided to feast on one body and wait until the next day to attack fully. When he does prepare to fight Beowulf, he expected a fast and easy win. What he didn't expect was a harsh, and long battle. As Grendel and Beowulf fought, Grendel learned that Beowulf had the strongest hand on anyone he'd attacked yet. Beowulf pulled back at Grendel's claws with force,…

Grendel was evil, but shown that we could give him some sympathy in the movie while his mother was supposed to have a battle with Beowulf as stated in the poem but instead, she seduced Beowulf and asked for a son. While women's were barely mentioned in the poem, in the movie, they had a bigger role like Wealthow being more involved in the movie. While watching and reading the story of Beowulf, it amused me how they compare and contrast the poem in the movie, not all scenes in the movie were the same because they wanted the audience to be…

While Grendel was beginning his revenge, he was feeling great he couldn’t believe his luck. “ I can hardly believe my luck, and my wild heart laughs, but I let out no sound. Swiftly, softly, I will move from bed to bed and destroy them all, Swallow every last man” (Gardner 168). When Grendel found out it was all a trap to kill him, he thought he would be able to defeat them all. They were just men, he could simply eat them. But when he faces Beowulf he starts to think differently. “ I realize, have I encountered a grip like his. My whole arm was on fire” (gardner 168). When Grendel is seriously injured, he knows he has no chance against Beowulf. When Grendel is about to die a man mentions “ poor grendel’s had an accident” Grendel last words…

When compared to the typical woman that appears in Beowulf, Grendel’s Mother proves to be far different. In a culture where women are generally used to settle feuds through marriage, Grendel’s Mother alludes to a more protective and vindictive female figure. “He [Grendel] died in battle...and now this powerful other one arrives, this force for evil driven to avenge her kinsman’s death,” (1337-1340). By beginning a feud in the name of her son, Grendel’s Mother, who is not even given a name, is labeled as the opposite of an ideal…

Women in the book seem to only serve mead, provide entertainment, and serve the men. In the time Beowulf was written women had still not gained that rights they have today. They were of the seen as property rather than a person. And they were treated like so. The role of women back then was not a big one, Hrothgar’s wife was a queen! And all she did was serve mead at Heorot. I can only imagine what women who were not married to powerful men had to endure.…

Beowulf’s first villain Grendel is an exceptionally diverse character. His nature is ambiguous. He is a mix of man and beast and his fury is based on very human feelings of resentment and jealousy. Although Grendel is portrayed as an animal like demonic creature of some sort, upon further examination the reader begins to sympathize with the very human emotions that drive him to kill.…

My last words to him was “WHO DID THIS TO YOU ? WHO IS TAKING YOU AWAY FROM ME?!” I couldn’t stop replaying his response in my head “B-Beowulf... The Son Of Ecgtheow” I swear at that moment I’ve never cried so much, Grendel was my only child and he meant the world to me. I sat there in the cave holding Grendel he kept screaming and hollering, I hate hearing hollering, so I started plotting on the man called Beowulf. I thought of a million and one ways to kill him but I didn’t think anyone of them compared to what he had did to my son. When I got myself together I left my cave and…
