Examples Of Contradictions In 'To Asaji's'
I find that your point about the subdued responses of the characters to life emotional life events (such as pregnancy) very interesting. While Asaji's monotonous and placid speeches is an obvious example, contradictions in emotional responses are present in other characters as well. For example, Washizu and Miki appeared more grave, shocked and unsettled than honored or happy after being promoted by Lord Tsuzuki, understanding the implications this have on the prophecy they have heard.

As the prophecy plays out, Washizu becomes increasingly detached and unsociable towards Miki and the other commanders and nobles, who used to be his colleagues. Instead, he grows more attached to Asaji, spending more and more time with her, assuaging her hypothetical

One of the main emotions was frightened/scared. At the beginning of the book, Amari’s village was attacked. I know this because in the text it says. “Amari knew she should run; she knew she should try to escape into the forest, but her feet would not move. She could only stare in horror…….She watched an Ashanti grab her mother and try to put thick iron cuffs on her wrists……” The reason Amari felt scared was because…

The words in paragraphs ten through twelve showed a lot of emotion. The overall tone of the passage is very pragmatic and frank. The author used many robust words that really set the tone of those paragraphs. For instance, for an example of pragmatic, paragraph twelve states, “He was outraged by the innkeeper's greed and deception.” The word outraged shows how disgusted and livid he was with the innkeeper’s actions. Another example is in paragraph twelve, “The farmer thanked the lawyer for his cleverness and happily returned home.” The word “happily” reveals that the farmer was very pleased with the conclusion of the case in the courtroom. Animated would be a good tone to describe this sentence. Frank tone in the passage is shown in paragraph…

Sentiment can be easily be stimulated from the readers by writing tender and sorrowful scenes. However, sentiment can also come from angry self-reflexive irony. Instead of the typical sentiment of warmness and sympathy, a different type of sentiment is produced from the words and actions of Daniel. The way he behaved so atrociously to his wife, but then reflected about what he did by addressing to the readers is quite ironic. One moment he is malicious to Phyllis, then the next he tried to pathetically appeal to the audience over his actions; the feeling of what is wrong with him is given by the readers. He does not truly reflect over his actions, but he uses his words to make it seem like he is reflecting to the readers. Doctorow is trying…

We are offered a good amount of detail and information on the other characters in the script without the writer being too obvious or blunt about their circumstances. Lianna’s character, for example, is sharp and intimidating just based on the reactions of the workers at Clutch. It is made obvious before she enters that her presence is…

The speakers in “Morning Song” by Sylvia Plath and “Infant Sorrow” by William Blake express their attitudes towards infancy. They do this through the use of imagery and language in each poem. There is a range of emotions that are expressed by the speakers, who are both providing perspectives of childbirth from the parent’s point of view. The vivid images that are created by these poems reveal the attitudes of the speakers toward infancy.…

While reading the story delivering Lily, It is easy to tell that the author went through this experience personally. He recalled minor details such as the room the birth was in, who was with them before the birth, and the doctors directions that he heard on the phone. He seemed very into the moment, even more than the wife did. Author Phillip Lopate seemed overly tense from the moment the story started while his wife acted unexpectedly calm especially since she was the one about to give birth. While the husband was rushing to get out of the house to head to the hospital was taking her sweet time making sure the mums got watered before they left. This added drama to the story and made it far more interesting to read. This calm demeanor later changed for the wife when the birth started happening and she realized that she needed more painkillers than she already had and felt the immense pain of child birth causing her to scream incredibly for more drugs.…

The tone, along with the foreshadowing used in the beginning of the story, create a mood of anticipation and uncertainty. The purpose of all this is to create suspense and to make the story move along faster. For instance, halfway through the story the reader gets a clear feeling that something bad is going to happen, which helps to build up their expectations and alerts them that the story will take an unexpected turn soon. The line, “It became clear at once that help was needed, because the husband was not pleased” is an example of the foreshadowing in the story, because it is at this moment that the reader realizes that the wife’s good intentions did not have a positive effect on her…

By the way of how Sabina’s character acted throughout the story, she illustrated multitudinous amount of intense emotion regardless if she’s downhearted or happy. In the beginning, the story started with Sabina being so happy, eager, excited and inspired to the point that she doesn’t even listen to other people anymore because Mr. George, the love of her life is coming back to get reunited with her. Sabina exhibited a very strong feeling about how hopeful she was and how exhilarated she feels. As the story continued, Sabina discovered that Mr. George is already married with somebody else and that lead Sabina’s change of emotion from the peak of happiness and down to the abyss of sadness but even though the emotion has been changed, the emotion that runs is still strong thus covering the need of strong and inspired emotion in writing a subliminal story.…
