Characters Evolving

If you look back at your journey of life, would you think you have evolved? As we grow older we evolve and learn more about the world around us. Everybody goes through changes in life, even characters in the stories we read. For example, the story of "The Interlopers" by Saki that takes place on the eastern spurs of the Carpathians. This story talks about two characters that have hated each other for over three generations. However, a difficult situation brings them to a different conclusion.

It starts with Ulrich von Gradwitz holding his rifle in the lands that were appointed to him by the Court. These lands were the cause of the feud that separated the two participating families. He waits for Georg, his life-long enemy, to approach him to face him. After they meet, they start an argument. While they were arguing, they don't notice that a storm had begun; as a consequence a tree gets struck by lighting. This tree falls down, pinning both men, injuring them. After laying there for a while, Ulrich starts to think about their feud. He suddenly realized that the reason they were fighting was irrelevant, because in that moment nothing seemed as bad as being stuck under that tree; at this point he had a change of heart and realized that all the fighting that passed down from generation to generation was only

As we grow, we learn more about ourselves and others. In the story "The Interlopers" the title is the first symbolism. It indicates how two each path with different morals and principles can intertwine and learn from one another. Ulrich and Georg fought for what they believed was true but in the end discovered the correct path to follow. These characters are an example of the way literature teaches us who people evolve into the course of life. These characters clearly show us that our feelings could always change especially from the circumstances we go through in

The Interlopers is a story by Saki based around the feud and friendship of Georg Znaeym and Ulrich von Gradwitz. The definition of "interloper" is someone who is unwanted, a trespasser or intruder. Who then, was Saki referring to as to the interlopers? "Wolves." This is the last line in the story. These are the ones who were unwanted and intruded on these two men. The fear of death would bring these two together but the interlopers would erase what they had just become. I truly believe that these wolves are the ones that Saki was referring to in the…

Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, written in 1955, is an exceptional play that depicts the events of the Scopes Trial in 1925. The Scopes Trial or “Monkey Trial” was held in Dayton, Tennessee. Previous to the trial, the Butler Act was passed in Tennessee to ban the teaching of evolution. In an attempt to test the law, high school teacher John Scopes taught the theory of evolution to his class. After violating the act, Scopes was taken to jail where he waited for a trial to be held. Clarence Darrow would later represent him in the trial against William Jennings Bryan on the prosecution. Inherit the Wind uses the Scopes Trial as a basis for the play by comparing the views of fundamentalists and evolutionists. In the play, the fundamentalists include the townspeople, Matthew Harrison Brady (William Jennings Bryan), and Reverend Brown. They represent the “backwards” ways of the town of Hillsboro where the play takes place. The evolutionists in the play include Bert Cates (John Scopes), Henry Drummond (Clarence Darrow), and E.K. Hornbeck. In Inherit the Wind the evolutionists are cast in a more favorable light because of their intelligence level versus that of the fundamentalists, the ideas presented by the defense in the trial, and the stylistic devices used throughout the play.…

From there I spent more time with family, rekindled my love for art, and transferred to a different school. The hard time I went through was awful, but it promoted so much growth and has made me into the person I am…
