Colonel Munro is the commander of the English Fort William Henry, and is the father of Cora and Alice. He is devastated by the necessary surrender of the fort to the French, and deeply distressed by the capture of his daughters and the subsequent murder of Cora. Alice is the younger daughter of Colonel Munro. She is fair-skinned, with golden hair and blue eyes. She is presented as being weak and emotional, although on occasions she does show some courage, as when she prefers to die rather than win her freedom by allowing Cora be taken as wife by Magua. Alice is courted by Heyward and her father gives them permission to marry. Cora is the daughter of Colonel Munro, and the elder sister, by four or five years, of Alice. She is the opposite of Alice. She has dark eyes and dark hair, having been descended remotely from a black ancestor. Cora is independent and shows great courage when faced with danger, often comforting her weaker sister. When David, Heyward and her sister Alice are captured by the Hurons, Cora is the only one who has the presence of mind to remember to leave a trail. She also defies Magua and resists his demands. Cora is at the heart of the love triangle between Uncas, who loves her and whom she admires, and Magua, who wants her as his wife, but whom she despises. Cora is eventually killed by a Huron warrior. Munro cares more about the war. He doesnt care about spending time with his daughters. Of course he wants them to be safe. He would rather like to worry about the war and how he can solve it. Chingagook likes to be with his sons. He likes spending time with them both. He helps them learn what they have to learn also. He takes them hunting and teaches them to scalp people. Munro doesnt do any of that given the fact that hes not indian so hes girls do not need to those sorts of things. They do however need to know that there father cares about there safety more then him caring about the war. Chingachgook is the last of the great Mohican

She enters the house to freshen up before going out to dinner with Henry. She puts on her finest outfit, "which was the symbol of her prettiness". This also, is a symbol of her femininity. Henry sees her and is stunned by her beauty and femininity. He says, "You look so nice!" She tenses up and asks for what he means by it, his definition of nice. He goes on to say, "I don't know. I mean you look different, strong and happy." She is eyes widely interested in this and asks "What do you mean 'strong'?". He is taken aback by her response. Henry was just trying to compliment her and she still would not allow him to enter her heart, almost as if he has offended her with his praise. As they continue their way to dinner, Elisa discovers something quite tragic to her. She sees her treasured chrysanthemums discarded on the side of the road as if a pile of unimportant garbage. She is distraught at the sight of them lying there mercilessly. She is brought to tears as she realizes that they surely mean nothing- symbolic to her self-worth. The repairman had only saved the pot, which was of far more value to him. The poor flowers are left to wilt and die, unable to survive on the side of the road. Sadly, that is such the case of her identity. She pulls up her coat collar to hide her tears, in which she cries; handling the situation with the weakness of a woman, rather than the strength of a male. Her strength has no match now. She will always be a female at the root no matter how strong it appears…

The Munro sisters, Cora and Alice, are as different as their mothers. Cora has her mother’s West Indian fire, her father’s courage, and the independence and strength of having grown up bridging two worlds, English and west-Indian,, old world and new. She is passionate like Uncas; and like him she also loves and respects her father both as a man and as a soldier. Her clever manipulation of Magua and her concern for everyone in her captured party, shows her father’s influence. Just as Hawkeye is more like Chingachgook than is Uncas, Cora is far more like her father than Alice, who is an outlier in the new world, frail and nervous, as unlike her father as Uncas, with his ranging and impetuous warrior nature, is unlike his. Yet Alice also grows up influenced by her father and so she soldier’s on despite her fears. Chingachgook and Colonel Munro both suffer the loss of a beloved child. Munro is left with Alice and Chingachgook with Hawkeye. All are forever bonded by war and…
