ABSTRACT
The following report presents a study on UOB (United Overseas Bank Limited), one of Singapore’s local banks. Our report mainly focuses on UOB’s 2011 financial report to determine its current financial situation in the market. Our team has analyzed the banks financial situation in different aspects which will then be concluded or summarized. CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION

UOB (United Overseas Bank Limited) is one of Singapore’s local banks. It is committed to provide quality products and excellent customer service to its customers. Founded in 1935, it has become a well-established regional presence, particularly in Asia. UOB has banking subsidiaries situated in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China, besides Singapore. (UOB Group, 2013). In the following, a case study was done on UOB based on its minimum risk, types of credit cards available and competitive strengths for evaluation.

2.1 Objective

The objective of this report is to provide an overview of our analysis and to show the details of our findings and to determine UOB’s current financial performance based on three aspects and compared it to two other local banks.

2.2 Methods of approach

As mentioned earlier, various methods of analysis have been used in this report to determine our findings. Methods were used such as comparing UOB’s competitive strengths to the other two local banks. Furthermore, the comparison of the different types of credit cards available. Simple calculation was also a method of approach. Calculations include the deposits; loans and advances growth rate and the minimum risk.

2.3 Scopes and limitations

While doing this report, there were a few scopes and limitations that have been noticed. Some of the scopes are being able to find information easily from the bank’s website and calculation guide from our lecture notes or textbooks. As for limitations, they are consideration taken to determine what credit cards to use for the analysis as there are too many.

2.4 Preview

The following of the report will show how the bank obtains its funds and what are its loans and advances. What are the kinds of credit cards available? Whether did it met the minimum risk of 8% based on the Basel II capital accord and their competitive strengths based on market share.
