Brita® pitcher and faucet water filtration systems reduce the following common impurities, and can even remove 96.6% of pharmaceuticals including Acetaminophen, Carbamazepine, Estradiol, Naproxen and Progesterone¹:
Pitchers and Dispensers: Reduce Chlorine (taste and odor), Copper, and Mercury — all of which may be found in tap water.
See our Impurities Reduction chart
Faucet Filtration Systems: Reduce Lead, TTHM, VOCs, lindane (pesticide), 2,4-D, alachlor, atrazine (herbicide), Chlorine (taste and odor) and sediment²

Brita® Bottles: All Brita® bottles are NSF certified to reduce the taste and odor of Chlorine and particulates.²
In a Brita® Faucet filter, there is a two-step process. When you turn on your tap, water first passes through a non-woven screen around the filter to trap sediment. Then, the water then flows through a compressed block of carbon and zeolite, reducing chlorine (for taste and odor) and lead.
In a Brita® Pitcher filter, activated carbon and ion exchange resin work together to filter out the following impurities, leaving you with healthier³, great-tasting drinking water: The Carbon reduces Chlorine. Ion Exchange Resin reduces metals: Copper, Cadmium, Mercury (health contaminants) & Zinc (metallic taste).

Firstly, the market for the Brita Pour-through system(PT), which is the core product that propelled Brita’s position in the market, has been stagnant since the introduction of alternative sources of filtered systems such as Faucet-mounted(FM) filter and the introduction of bottled water in to the market. With Brita reluctant to explore the alternative options quickly, other competitors such as PUR, have gained a firmer foot-hold in terms of market-share relative to Brita.…

Tom Standageaug also reports one fourth of the bottled water in Cleveland contained more chemicals than tap water. Almost every city regulates its tap water to make sure it is not polluted. If someone lives in the country with well water all they have to do is check it regularly. In addition, several bottled water enthusiast claim recycling solves the environmental problem. The Water Project states only one fifth of water bottles recycled. This is nothing and does not help the environment. Bottled water is worse than tap water unless there are specific circumstances.…

Background: According to the Millennium Development Goals Report 2012, 783 million people, or 11 per cent of the global population, remain without access to an improved source of drinking water. Also the United Nations has long been addressing the global crisis caused by insufficient water supply to satisfy basic human needs and growing demands on the world’s water resources to meet human, commercial and agricultural needs (un.org). In this experiment water quality and contamination of groundwater was investigated. First, I observed the effects that many pollutants have on groundwater. I predict that in this experiment the oil and vinegar will create the large amount of contamination in the water, while the laundry detergent will just create an aroma smell to it. Considering the smells and color to these ingredients I think that it will cause the water quality to have a bad smell and cause the water to be very cloudy. Once filtering the contaminated water, the water will be clear and purified. Second, I will experiment water treatment and filtering. I predict that once the contaminated water is treated and filtered that it will leave me with less contamination or none at all. Then for the last experiment, I will determine the difference between bottled water and tap water to discover any contamination. I predict that the tap water will be the most contaminated and with the most chemicals in it, while the bottled waters; Dasani and Fiji will be completely filtered and free of any chemicals.…

The other approach is the trickling filters that uses a bed of stones, or the plastic material that is perforated. Oxygen is picked up by the waste water and gets sprayed through the filter so that it can pass through the micro organisms .The organic materials present in the waste water are fed on by the micro-organisms due to the high amounts of oxygen. These methods bring together aerobic micro –organisms, oxygen and organic matter. Biological oxidation takes place in the water treatment system, other…

    1. Pumping and containment – The majority of water must be pumped from its source or directed into pipes or holding tanks. To avoid adding contaminants to the water, this physical infrastructure must be made from appropriate materials and constructed so that accidental contamination does not occur. 2. Screening (see also screen filter) – The first step in purifying surface water is to remove large debris such as sticks, leaves, trash and other large particles which may interfere with subsequent purification steps. Most deep groundwater does not need screening before other purification steps. 3. Storage – Water from rivers may also be stored in bankside reservoirs for periods between a few days and many months to allow natural biological purification to take place. This is especially important if treatment is by slow sand filters. Storage reservoirs also provide a buffer against short periods of drought or to allow water supply to be maintained during transitory pollution incidents in the source river. 4. Pre-conditioning – Water rich in hardness salts is treated with soda-ash (sodium carbonate) to precipitate calcium carbonate out utilising the common-ion effect. 5. Pre-chlorination – In many plants the incoming water was chlorinated to minimise the growth of fouling organisms on the pipe-work and tanks. Because of the potential adverse quality effects (see chlorine below), this has largely been discontinued.[citation needed] [edit]pH adjustment…
