Evaluating Gatsby's Standards-Based Grading Form To Use The Standards
Student: Gatsby Oaks
Grade: B-
I have chosen to use the Standards Based Grading record type to help me see where my students need help. I have also chosen this grading system because the student is graded based on their understanding and growth. Gatsby has struggled in his understanding of two of the five assignments for this objective. He has a proficient or highly proficient level of understanding on three assignments and a below proficient level of understanding on the other two assignments. On the assessments, Gatsby has a proficiency score of 3 on two assessments and a score of 2 on the other assessment. This means Gatsby has an approaching proficient level of understanding on one assessment and proficient on the other two assessments.

Throughout the novels read in Miss Hammit’s literary genre class, students learned how Standards Based Grading compares through the traditional ways of grading. During the semester, Literary novels that were included consisted of Frankenstein, the Velveteen Rabbit, the lottery etc. After the books were read, test and essays were included to test those students knowing and understanding, organizational skills, creativity and grammar. Standards based grading tends to be better than the old fashioned way of grading since it test more than memorization skills.…

I am aware that Godwin has began to explain the flaws to the NHPS grading policies and I deeply apologize that it has caused some conflict within the home. At ESUMS, and at the majority of New Haven Public Schools, we set deadlines for teachers to enter grades into Powerschool and once that deadline has past, all grades that were not submitted will automatically be Zeros. However, Teachers are able to go back later and correct grades within the first 30 days that the grading period has closed. I can assure you, Godwin has maintained a high level of grades through the first semester of Senior year.…

This sufficiency descriptor gives assessment guidance by identifying the different standards that produce different marks. Section by section, for each assessment criterion, the descriptors identify typical degrees of sufficiency of learner evidence in a submission. These degrees of sufficiency are labelled as ‘Referral’, ‘Pass’ or ‘Good pass’ (i.e. although it is only one assessment criterion, if that standard were replicated uniformly across the whole assessment, it would be likely to produce marks in the 40s, 50s or 70s & above).…

The assessment I have chosen for this quarter is creating a movie poster. The characters in The Great Gatsby will be used as comparisons to the celebrities. The main character in this novel is Gatsby. Gatsby is a 30 year old good looking man who easily attracts the ladies. Also, he happens to be extremely wealthy. Jay strives to achieve whatever goal he sets himself. In this novel, his goal is to make a fortune so he could live happily with the love of his love. Gatsby is a very open-minded, outgoing character. He seems to be trustworthy, but he knows a lot of people so it may be smart not to open up to him. The celebrity that best fits the character of Jay Gatsby would have to be Zac Efron. Not only does Efron have the looks like Gatsby,…

The worry is the three assessments (the grades out of 100). Proficiency grading is different from all other forms in the grade book. A student can only receive five possible grades out of 100 on an assessment: 0, 1, 75, 85, and 100. I modified this slightly to show the number of questions he got correct on the test (for example, he received 15/25 on the L1 and he needed at least a 18/25 to get a C). According to the grading scale, it should show a 1/100 because he didn't pass at a C or above, but the 15 is in there for my records so I don't have to keep digging out the tests to find out their real scores on it.…
