Evaluate China’s brand of media and it’s take on censorship.

Like many other countries the People’s Republic of China (PRC) government imposes censorship on various forms and mediums of media which they dub inappropriate and indecent. An adequate example would be the censorship of internet. In today’s modern cosmopolitan society, the internet plays an integral role in our daily lives. An exemplary benefit would be the availability of worldwide media accessibility and communication. However, in China, they have been fairly criticized for the drastic measures they have taken to maintain and guide the coverage of individual and sensitive issues. Therefore in this essay, i will further elaborate specifically on the censorship of the internet as well as the agenda of the Chinese government.

One of the major issues would be the exposure of inappropriate and indecent content on the world wide web. Such content is generally seen as obscene and detrimental to the younger generation. China being a conservative and a party of communists, they are significantly affected by the implications of the web when misapplied, such as pornography, obscenity and criminal activity. In order to counter these issues, the PRC government decided to impose a regulation that requires all PC’s to install an internet filtration software called Green Dam-Youth Escort and would be pre-installed in all new computers . According to the Chinese government, this software is mainly and particularly to filter out sites that consist of pornographic material and to protect the younger generation from the “unhealthy and vulgar” material available on the web. Experts say that this software could potentially damage the system of the computer itself, thus making it more vulnerable. “ It contains serious vulnerabilities, which is especially worrisome given how widely the software will be adopted.” said J.
