The European Age of Exploration was very beneficial to not only Europe but also the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Although the European Age of Exploration was said to have come about for the purpose of finding or discovering new spices, that was not the only reason. The Europeans also set out to find new trade routes that went around the Ottoman’s territory and this exploration lead to the European Golden Age because it brought Europe out of the “Dark Ages.” Europe was facing what was known as the “Dark Ages,” they were cut off from the Silk Roads which meant that they were “without access to the wealth, trade goods, technologies, and ideas that traveled from China, India, the Middle East, and North Africa.” In Document 1 it discusses one of the motivations behind the Europeans desire to explore which was their fear of the Ottoman’s expansion, the Ottoman’s already controlled the trade routes to the east. Due to the Ottoman’s control, Europeans had to find new trade routes. Christopher Columbus was one of the explores and he set off for India using a new western route. Yes, the European exploration brought new good to be traded between Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, it also brought deadly diseases. The diseases took a devastating affect on the natives of the new world (Document 5). Though it had some negative effects, it lead into the European Golden Age, also known as the Renaissance, which was a time for new things. New music, new art, new literature, it was the rebirth of Europe. During this time period, art began to be seen as a branch of knowledge. Leonardo Da Vinci was known as the Renaissance man, he took art to another level- from his famous Mona Lisa to his many projects on the human anatomy and structures of plants.
