Period: 1
January 8th, 2015 Mr. Charlie Strong, How are you today? I hope you are holding up well considering the difficulties with the program. Your winning percentage as a coach at Louisville was .712. You changed that program from mediocre, to a premier Big East team. From what I have researched, you plan to do so at Texas as well. The biggest problem with the Texas program is the lack of talent at the quarterback position. The solution to that problem is me.
You maybe asking yourself, “Who is this kid?” My name is Wayne Shockley from
Round Rock High School in Texas. You gave me a few looks, but once I decided I would focus on my academics, the scouting stopped. I have now decided to continue to play the game I love under a role model that is a role model. I play quarterback for a premier 6A school. I am currently a Senior graduating in spring 2015. My vitals are: Height: 6'2”, Weight:
210, 40 yard dash: 4.45, Bench: 290. My academics are outstanding for my school. I am in the top 10% of my class and I understand concepts quickly. This attribute will help with the fact of me leading an offense each play.
Tyrone Swoops struggled this season and I believe I can help push the program in the direction it needs to go. I acknowledge the fact that you have another quarterback that will be better prepared, but I have ran your offense since middle school and I am more trustworthy than your other option pertaining to academics. I hope you consider coming to scout me again and looking at me as the future of the program because I know you love winning. Once we return Texas to its former glory, the feeling of winning will be permanent. Hook’em Horns,
Wayne Shockley

To begin with, Eighner establishes his use of logos by emphasizing his view on wastefulness in today’s society. Eighner communicates in his article, “Because help seldom stays long at these places, pizzas are often made with wrong topping, refused on delivery for being cold, or baked incorrectly. The products to be discarded are boxed up” (714). Here, he is exemplifying his claim that people are wasting away foods over little things, such as toppings on pizzas. Furthermore, Eighner writes “Students throw food away around breaks because they do not know whether it has spoiled or will spoil before they return” (715). This is another example of wastefulness, students discard perfectly good food because they are unaware of the expiration date.…

Joe has been struggling in school lately. He has a 2.1 GPA and his test scores are low. Persuasion is an attempt to convince readers to agree with a point of view, to make a decision, or to pursue a particular course of action (Rosa 629). The essay “Antarctica Belongs to All of Us, That’s Why We Must Preserve It” written by Ellen Ratner shows an example of this. In her essay, she explains that Antarctica does not belong to any one nation, but to everyone. Ratner goes on to say that we cannot drill for oil, minerals, or turn the continent into a tourist attraction. Ratner describes the happenings in Antarctica's ecosystem today, and believes we should do everything we can to try and preserve this continent. In Ellen Ratner’s essay, “Antarctica Belongs to All of Us, That’s Why We Must Preserve It” she uses many persuasive strategies to change reader’s minds about inhabiting the land.…

First, I am a strong leader because I have had experience over the years in leading people. Whether it be captain of my soccer team, or being in Student Council for over five years, I have always be raised as a leader which has helped me develop my skills. With my leadership skills, I have helped lead soccer camps and other community service outreaches. Secondly, my school spirit always is always a strong category for me. I always put the best effort I can into my spirit wear, even if it may be absurd. Last year, I received the most spirited Freshman in Student Council and my spirit has not stopped there. This year, I have won the spirit fashion show contests at lunch both times this year. Also, I even created the hashtag lsnspirit to show off our spirit at Lee’s Summit North. Lastly, I take pride in my dependability. This year in Student Council, I have not received a demerit for any reason. I take pride in this and I plan to continue this as in the past two years I have a positive merit status. Furthermore, my dependability is also very flexible. I am able to switch around my schedule just to make time for any Student Council obligation. Overall, due to leadership, school spirit, and dependability, I will assure you that I will be a productive member of Student…

All authors use classical appeals, ethos, logos, and pathos, which are using audience based reasons to increase the effectiveness of the author’s argument. So what is ethos, logos and pathos? Ethos is the author’s way of establishing creditability to the audience. Logos is using data and facts to appeal to the audience’s sense of reasoning and pathos appeals to the audience’s emotions, as defined in Writing Arguments by (Ramage, Bean, & Johnson, 2012). How well do they use these appeals in chapter 9 of Discovering Psychology? (Hockenbury, & Hockenbury, 2011).…

This PSA surrounded the ever increasing problem of deforestation; the idea that humans are beginning to overexploit the resources that trees provide them with; and a major contributor to that would be manufacturing/building companies. The company’s main focus is to make money regardless of the impact that it has on society in the future; however, a great solution to this would be that even if companies do cut down trees the least they can do is replant them. This was one of the major messages that this PSA delivered; and through the use of pathos, ethos, and logos it enhanced the message. There were several different types of music styles that were used throughout the PSA; including the clam and soothing music that started the PSA of. Using…

I feel like after high school, I have been lazy and less motivated to do physical activities.…
