Ethical Reflective Analysis
The ethics portfolio artifact is from the Administrative Ethics (PAD 6436) course that I took Fall 2015 semester. The course was one of the most important courses I took in MPA program. Before taking this course, I never took an ethic course. As a result, I did not give great thought about the importance of the ethical values in the workplace. However, when I completed the ethic portfolio, I gained many competencies and skills.
One of the competencies I gained when doing the ethic portfolio is the ability to analyze, synthesize, think critically, solve problems and make decisions, articulate and apply a public service perspective. For example, I had to think about my professional and personal values. This took me sometimes since I never had

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

The Ethical Lens Inventory supports Equality and Sensibility as my core values. The results describes that I “prioritize the value of equality over autonomy” (ELI inventory). In addition, it indicates the well being of the community as my primary concern as the “best way to assure that individuals are treated fairly” (ELI inventory). The explanations of these core values reassure my conviction that one-size-fits all approach isn’t the best way to find solutions, but rather the best results are achieved by examining each situation in its context. In other words, I prioritize the value of sensibility over rationality.…

The two ethical dilemmas presented in the simulation involved possible sexual harassment in the workplace and the reporting of inaccurate scientific data. My ethical culture analysis will be on the company Waste Management. While researching companies for this analysis, I found that as of 2009, Waste Management is in the top 99 most ethical companies in the world (http://www.ethisphere.org). I already have interest in this company because one of my best friend’s father, Robert Biggs, is the chief financial officer for Waste Management’s Northeast division. His parents have always been like a second family to me. Robert Biggs came from nothing, worked his way up to CFO, and is very successful. Having said that, Waste Management has always been a company that interests me. I would love to get a job with them once I get my bachelors in Business Administration. They treat their employees exceptionally well considering the field and nature of the business they run and manage to be a top ethical company. Their commercials are always promoting recycling and “going green”. Their website has a “did you know” blurb on the home page that says, “Waste Management's subsidiary, Wheelabrator Technologies converts municipal solid waste to energy, saving nearly 7.6 million barrels of oil and generating enough clean, renewable energy to power 700,000 homes each year (or nearly 2 million tons of coal)” (www.wm.com). That speaks volumes on what they are about and their goals as they move forward into a world in need of conserving energy and finding new energy.…

As I began English 111 this summer I thought I was a good writer unfortunately. I was not skilled in writing like I expected. As I progressed in in this course it has become evident to me I lacked the proper structure when formulating an essay. I essentially saw that I was going to need a lot of improvement when devising a good thesis statement and fixing grammatic errors. I also had to refrain from using sentence fragments to improve the flow of my writing. Despite, all the obstacles, I have developed the skills needed to formulate an essay. However, this course has given me the knowledge needed to succeed in writing many well-structured papers.…

The mayor of a small town was face with a difficult decision which would have ether help the community or help the elderly. In this critical decision you have to think what’s going to best for everyone of this economic situation. The mayor had to look at every side to understand the pros and cons of what will happen if he makes the choice to go either way. I think the mayor should accommodate both the city and the elderly. In the first scenario the course of action was the best ethical choice because he had the opportunity to be able to work out both problems. The mayor can rebuild a nursing to help accommodate room for the mall. By building a better and more suitable nursing…

I was given the opportunity to work with a fourteen year old girl, whom I shall refer to as ‘S’. She is the eldest daughter of a lone female parent with alcohol misuse problems. Her mother and younger sibling were previously referred to the agency and as a result are now receiving support. S also has a thirteen year old brother who receives support from agencies relating to the youth justice system. In light of this S had been perceived as coping well socially and academically at school and within her family home. However as work progressed with her mother, my practice teacher felt that S was taking on a lot of responsibility and was perhaps internalising the emotions this was creating. She had also been reported on a previous occasion to the social work department on a suspicion that she was a young carer.…

Since I had this professor for ECE300 I already had an idea how the class is going to be. The class load is the same as when I had her for ECE300 (I seems like a lot if you don’t plan ahead). An A way I am happy I do not have to go and observe children like previously ECE classes I had taken because of my schedule for this semester. Being able to visit two different CBO’s and talking to parent coordinator seems more flexible with my schedule and I already have ideas where I want to go. At first I did not know what the professor was talking about when she said we had to find “CBO”. All I kept telling myself, what is CBO? Oh god, this seems hard. How can I make this work with my schedule? But once the professor gave us example I had an idea where to go.…
