Ultimately, all persuasion should open opportunities for people to make a choice to assign meaning to a symbol. If persuasion is forced on people and narrows down or prevents them from having the ability to choose, the persuasion is occurring on wrong, unethical grounds. Clearly, persuasion can be used both properly and improperly in the church. If the church tries to open space for people to decide whether or not to accept Jesus as their savior by using God’s words in scripture as support, then persuasion has occurred on ethical grounds because it offers people choice.
