Ethics play a role in everyday business. Many company executives in an attempt to build a profitable organization and build individual wealth are confronted with ethical decisions daily. Penn Square Bank and Dow Corning have both made decisions in their business that started out making millions of dollars but ultimately cost them more than could have been imagined. Unethical decisions cause more than just cash to an organization, the loss of reputation could be even more detrimental.…
According to Labor values every business should respect their employee in the best way, and they should handle their issue with respect and in an appropriate manner. Ethics is rules that are intended to direct employers in performing what is right and what is fair towards its employees. Employment standards expect every executive of any company or firm to treat its stakeholders as well as employees within the set standards. This applies to the entire community. For instance, values look ahead to the boss to hire, select, employ, and even take care of employees in a satisfactory way. Ethics is destined to guarantee that the manager does not misuse employees by taking advantage them (Perle, 2004).…

One of the major challenges companies face when it comes to ethical issues is the self-control of its employees. Whether it's an ethical issue that is monetary in nature or one that revolves around devotion to company policy, the reason this is a difficult issue for many companies is because it is out of management's hands. While a company can give its employees rules, policies and other directions, it cannot guarantee that employees will exercise self-control when it comes to ethical decisions. We all can relate to many employees being unethical in many situations.…
The first thing to figure out is what is considered an ethical issue and what is considered a moral issue. The best way to answer that is an ethical issue is one that sets a standard or code, that affects society, and a moral issue is one that defines who you are as a person, or your character. For example, a fellow employee is stealing and you know what they have done. How do you handle this situation? The ethical view would be to view it as many would; “This person is stealing, I know it, others may know it, the act is wrong and against the code of conduct. I must turn them in because this is wrong.” A person that takes on the moral issue in a biblical sense would say; “This is wrong and the bible says thou shall not steal.” Although many of us do not think in biblical terms, we do still have a conscience that helps us determine what is right and wrong. Our families may teach us the differences and hold us accountable. This can be carried into our careers but we need to keep our moral ethics in line with what is more important for the company as a whole; this includes the public.…

In a professional capacity many face predicaments at work where the ethics of an organization are not in line with that of the employee. This may cause conflict for the individual or the organization. During my studies at University of Phoenix I have been involved with an experience that I believed was ethically irresponsible. The organization hierarchy, my responsibility as an employee, and new skills learned as a student contributed to the way I handled the situation. With my Bachelors program finished, I have even more insight of other options that may have been considered. The following paper details the experience I had.…
Why do ethical problems occur in business? If so many business claim to be so ethical then why is it that several ethical issues are happening? Finding the cause of these issues is a step closer to being able to help reduce the way it impacts the business and the people involved. Conflict of interest is an ethical problem that often happens in the workplace. “Conflict of interest occurs when an individual’s self-interest conflicts with acting in the best interest of another, when the individual has an obligation to do so” (Lawrence and Weber 2011). Failure to tell or reveal a conflict of interest stands for deceit and may put the company and or the person in a big predicament. Situations such as conflict of interest should be avoided at all times if possible. Competitive pressures on profits are forcing companies that are barely making it to act in an unethical behavior…
Another ethical concern that comes into play is favoritism, because the authority figure might just ethically let a typical employee, let’s say knowingly make a personal call, but yet cohort to that employee might do the same and the authority figure takes action in disciplining that person.…
Ethics is an extremely important aspect of the culture of a company. Ethics is a set of moral principles: a theory or system of moral values. It is vital that each company adhere to an ethical code. Often times the morale of employees decrease for a variety of reasons. This decrease or lack of morale causes employees to begin to act in an unethical manner. Unethical behavior tends to be a common practice within some companies. “Larger companies sometimes decide that breaking laws and paying the fines involves lower costs than the financial gain made from breaking those laws” (Zeiger, n.d.) Despite the fact the unethical behavior occurs with the workplace, there are still several employees that are loyal to the law, the community and society as a whole. They report knowledge of illegal acts within the workplace. This group of people is known as whistleblowers.…
The structure of company Q is not currently formed to accommodate social responsibility or practice social ethics. Since the business is already in a heavily populated area and had to close down some of the stores due to high crime rates in those areas, maintaining a healthy relationship with the community in the area they are located is essential for the success of the business. The company has started to form a relationship with the community by listening to what the customers want and supplying the demand for those products. However, the chain is carrying all high margin products in all stores which may not suit the needs of those in lower income areas.…
