Ethical Issues In A Tattle Tale

There are several ethical issues that were presented in the A Tattle Tale case study. The main ethical issue is plagiarism. K.C., one of TJ’s group member, presented an assessment that was copied from an internet source without proper citations. Even though KC attempted to paraphrase some of his assessment’s contents, it was still clearly plagiarized because parts of his papers were copied from an unidentified website. (Ling, 2009). The other ethical issues are submitting substandard work that can dramatically affect TJ group’s grade and an obvious disregard of someone’s time by submitting work past the deadline. All assessments were due on Saturday to give TJ a chance to compile everyone’s contribution. In this scenario, TJ should confront KC and talk to him about the importance of properly citing his sources. By bypassing his group members and going straight to their course professor can cause conflict within his group. This will not only make his team members unhappy but also he may not be able to ask them for any help in the future. He wasn’t being a good group member because he went behind his group members’ back and acted on impulse.
It is not right for TJ to go to his course professor without informing the rest of the group first because even though his group members were nonchalant about the issue he presented, they have no idea how this scenario affected TJ. I agree that everyone should know the severity of plagiarism however there may be some other factors why his everyone responded nonchalantly to his questions about KC.
