Define stereotypes and prejudice. What is the difference between stereotyping and prejudice? Use examples to illustrate the differences. Stereotyping is unreliable generalization about all members of a group that do not take individual differences into account. (Racial and Ethnic Groups, 2012) Prejudice is having an opinion about people or situations without having the information to back it. For example, a white woman is more of an American than a black woman; a man can do a better job than a woman. Someone who is younger cannot possibly no more than an older person. These are some of the things that we face every day. Stereotyping and prejudice is something that has been around for a long time, but why not put a stop to and find out before we start judging.

What is the relationship between stereotyping and prejudice? The relationship between stereotyping and prejudice is that they both assume things. Both are judged before getting all of the facts. Stereotyping and prejudice are both used for negative way. Stereotyping others by the way they do things or who is doing them can become the start of prejudice. When one start to become prejudice they start breaking it down by the race, sexuality, age, disability and religion. We just assume that it will the negative before we even get to get the facts.

What can be done to prevent prejudice from occurring? We should really start communicating and educating others about prejudice. It is important not to fall into a state of mind that we have to have these thoughts in our minds. It was a long time ago when out older family members had one way to look at things, it has changed for us. We don’t have to look at someone by the color of their skin to where they come from to find out if they will be good people to be around to work with. It is our job to stop the nativity and start teaching positive thinking.
