Estee Lauder Companies, Inc is a U.S manufacturer and marketer of skin care, cosmetics, hair-care and fragrance products. The company's headquarters are in New York City. It was founded in 1946 by Estee Lauder and her husband Joseph Lauder. Her first step was to convince Madison Avenue to carry her product but she failed. Then she started her business by selling the product directly to the customers. With that success she began to target the high-class customers by selling the product exclusively through boutiques and department store. In 1948, Estee Lauder establish her first department store in New York. The next 15 years the products were selectively distributed in other stores in United States. And in 1960 the company stabilized their operation with the introduction of Estee Lauder product in Harrods in London, with Hong Kong a year after that.
The first Estee Lauder product sold were Super Rich All Purpose Cream, Cream Park, Cleansing Oil, and Skin Lotion. They became one the first major cosmetics firms to offer online shopping. Mrs.Estee Lauder was named one of ten Outstanding woman in Business in United States by business and financial editors in 1967. A year later she received the Spirit Achievement Award from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University and in the same year the company expanded again by opening Clinique Laboratories, Inc.
Today, Estee Lauder products have 26 brands including Estee Lauder, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Donald Trump, Sean John, Missoni, Daisy Fuentes Aramis, Clinique, Prescriptives, Lab Series, Origins, MAC, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Aveda, Jo Malone, Bumble and Bumble, Darphin, Rodan & Fields, American Beauty, Flirt, Good Skin and GrassRoots and others and are sold in over 130 countries. Mrs. Estee Lauder passed away in 2004 and before that the company became public in 1995 and today it is led by their children and grandchildren.
