Essay to My Teacher
Sam Echfar
ENG 111
Mr. Thompson
8/25/2013

Dear Mr Thompson, My name is Sam Echfar. I was born in the city of Marrakech in Morocco but Currently I reside in Williamsburg, VA. I graduated from Hassan II high school in 2004. I moved to the United States in 2006 since then I have always dreamed of going to school and becoming a successful person and giving back to my community. My short term goal is to obtain an Associate of Science degrees from Thomas Nelson Community College then successfully transfer to a traditional four year university where I can finish my studies. My long term goal is to become a computer programmer and work for Google inc. As for my relationship with English Literature; I find it sort of challenging. English is neither my native tongue nor my second language; In fact it’s my fourth language. I’ve tried my best during the past years to better my pronunciations. I took ESL classes as frequently as possible and I read more books than I can count, yet there is much room for improvement. My favorite book is “Who Moved My Cheese”. I listen to audio books instead of music but my favorite musician is Brian Adams. My favorite movie of all times is Gladiator. Sir, I can force myself to learn, and that’s what I plan to do in your classroom. I plan to succeed, and I will be reaching out for you to help me understand the instructions if possible. I will be using every resource offered by this institution that I see beneficial to better my proficiency with your subject of expertise. I look forward to learn in your class therefore, please feel free to correct my speech and written errors as it is necessary for me to recognize my week point, convert them to pivot points to better my education.
Thank you,
V/r,
Sam

I believe Margaret Drabble’s statement, “Our desire to conform is greater than our respect for objective facts,” to be quite true. Throughout history, people of all ages have wanted to be accepted and belong to a group rather than look at the facts and measure what is true and false. It is very evident in our society today that not only do we want to be accepted and belong, but we also are willing to do whatever it takes, no matter what the consequences turn out to be. I agree with Drabble’s statement and believe that it is true all around the world. If you were to step outside our society and look back at it objectively, I can assure you that you would see evidence of this.…

In Tim O'Brien's Vietnam novel The Things They Carried, in which the main character is also named Tim O'Brien, the author deliberately blurs the line between autobiography and fiction. In Vanity Fair, William Makepeace Thackeray presents readers with a heroine whose ambition and disregard for the morals of the nineteenth century make her seem more like a woman of our time than of her own. For hundreds of years capital punishment has been widely regarded as the best way to punish a criminal who has committed a serious crime against humanity. Although there can be benefits to ending a violent criminals life, there are obviously questionable aspects to punishing murder with more murder. However you may look at it, capital punishment still is and always will be a form of murder. I believe that that capital punishment is an ineffective deterrent especially in today’s world were legal consequences are designed to effectively teach the convict and general public from right and wrong, as well as make sure that crime does not reoccur.…
