This novel is placed in Airstrip one, a province of Oceania ,where everything is controlled by Great Brother and his party, and shows a cruel and degraded society. Winston is a civil servant working for the party and we can see his gradual development, his intellectual rebellion and his illicit romance with Julia which consequently cause his imprisonment, interrogation, torture, and re-education by the thought police.

Julia’s other side is much more interesting. She is a woman with raging hormones and a cunning spirit. A highly sexual being, she sleeps with Party members regularly to satisfy her own desires. Does she really mean it as rebellion, or does she just want to get it on? You could argue either way. Winston would sure like it to be the former, and Julia does suggest that her acts are her own small rebellion. But still, she is generally uninterested in fighting the good fight. In fact, the reason she approached Winston with the "I love you" note was probably to start yet another illicit affair. She busies herself with community service and other orthodox activities so that she can escape the Party’s thoughtcrime

George Orwell’s 1984 is a book about an average man and his troubled life in the year 1984. The story takes place not in the 1984 that we know to have come and past, but in sort of communist ruled era that Orwell originally portrayed in 1949. The book centers upon Winston Smith, a simple man who works for the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history as seen fit by the government, or as it is called in the novel, the ‘Party.’ 1984 takes place in the city of London, which is now located in a country called ‘Oceania’. The residents of Oceania are divided into three main social/economic castes; the ‘Inner Party’ (upper class government officials), the ‘Outer Party’ (middle class government workers), and the ‘Proles’ (regular citizens.) The inner Party rules over Oceania in a shockingly dark and oppressive manner. The Party controls every aspect of life for the residents of Oceania, and they do so in some arguably inhumane ways.…

She takes risks only to gain pleasure from breaking the small rules, like having relations with Winston, who thinks she is a serious follower of the government. “'It's this bloody thing that does it,' she said, ripping off the scarlet sash of the Junior Anti-Sex League and flinging it onto a bough.” (127). This shows how effortlessly she can rebel against the Party whose routine she pretends to religiously follow. Secondly, she enjoys stealing food from members of 'The Inner Party', like real chocolate, and coffee, which leaves Winston in awe. “'How did you manage to get hold of all these things?' 'It's all Inner Party stuff. There's nothing those swine don't have, nothing.'” (147). This proves how Julia enjoys being rebellious towards the party when it comes to breaking the small rules. Lastly, Julia pretends to enjoy Big Brothers rules of living, but really, she tries to hide her laughter while they do their routine 'Two Minute Hate' which proves your patriotism towards The Party. “She also stirred a sort of heavy envy in him by telling him that during the Two Minutes Hate her great difficulty was to avoid bursting out laughing.” (160). This final act of rebellion shows that Julia is careless and wants the freedom of having no government ruling her life. Julia is rebelling solely for the purpose of having the freedom of living without the power of the government watching over her every move, every…

This is where the ports are near the Brooklyn Bridge that is the gateway to Manhattan. The play is centred on an Italian-American longshoreman– Eddie Carbone. Eddie lives with his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine who he has developed improper feelings for, however his feelings are repressed. These matters are further complicated when Catherine falls in love with immigrants they are sheltering from the US government. Eddie repressed feelings suddenly begin to seep out in the form of rage and anger. Miller initially wanted the play to have one big arc culminating in a “final bang”. It was intended to have only one Act but was split up into the two. Because of this, the first Act does not contain any major climaxes in the plot but rather includes various tension-building elements that form the path to the eventual pinnacle at the end of the play. A View from the Bridge is a very tense play, with numerous layers of conflict consistently going on, and almost all of these are with Eddie. The tension aroused in Act 1 is crucial for the rest of the play. Miller during Act 1 creates tensions in a variety of manners.…
