Essay On Transition Into Highschool
In 8th grade we start asking ourselves “Am I ready for the transition into highschool?” Most 8th graders don’t know what they need in order to be successful in highschool, however, I do know what will help me have a successful highschool experience. Choosing the right courses, having good study habits, and setting attainable goals are all things that will ensure I am successful in highschool. The first first I have to do is make sure i pick the right classes. Picking classes that are too difficult could lead to me failing. On the other hand picking easy classes so that you get good grades doesn’t help you either. A former highschool teacher Dawn Burnette says “To be in a course too dificult just leads to frustration.” (Ghezzi, Patti “High School: What to Expect in 9th Grade.” School Family) Your classes also effect your life outside of school, depending on how much homework a teacher gives you and how often you study. It is also important to make sure you put school before sports. Running is a huge part of my life, I run all the time, so when cross country and track come along I have to …show more content…
With studying comes time management, I take private music lessons so I need to practice every night. When you add that to running, and homewrok my nights get fairly busy so I have a schedule with certain times that I work on homewrok before I talk to my friends. Finally, I need to set attainable goals for my years in college. I need to think about my future and make decisions based on what I want to do after highschool, If I set goals too high or low I’m cheating myself of the oppertunity to do good. In conclusion, there are many thigs i need to do to prepare for the transition from middle school to highschool, such as choosing the right classes, having good study habits, and setting reachable goals. If I do these things in highchool i should have a very successful

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Ever since…

However, studying these subjects in middle school is even more difficult. Studies have shown that the transition for a student from elementary school to middle school is academically and psychologically difficult. According to Maurice Elias in an article entitled, “Middle School Transition: It’s Harder Than You Think”, many former elementary school students are not well prepared for the demands of middle school. They need explicit instruction, coaching, and support with regard to organizing time and resources for homework; responding to work that is more challenging and requires more effort; understanding and addressing the varying expectations of teachers in different subject areas; and accomplishing such basic tasks as taking notes and taking tests (Elias, 2001). Unfortunately, this same sentiment resonates today with the New York City Public School system, specifically, middle schools located in low income areas.…

High school was my time to stop fooling around. The first day of high school, I awoke to the aroma of coffee brewing on the stove. As I get ready to head out my sister approached me, and told me “Education is the key that opens the door many possibilities you can be and do in your near future” I was so nervous the sweat started dripping from my palms, and I suddenly felt 15 degrees hotter. I was nervous, I knew this is the time to get serious. Immediately a thought came across “ how well I do these four years can affect my entire life”. At first high school might look like a time to have fun and have no worries, which was my initial thought. Later on you start to realize that you need work hard. I thought “How would my future look? I don’t want to end up hopelessly. I want to make something of myself. Sometimes it can be hard though. I just have to work through the pain. At this point it’s make it or break it, success is my only…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…

Middle School isn’t over; the end is here at last. The parts of my life that seemed never ending are gone for good. I thought I could not wait until high school, but now I wish that it wasn’t here so soon, ending my year as an eight grader. I feel lost as my eight grade year comes to a close. Throughout my life school had always come easy to me. I had always gotten straight A's and never had to worry about studying for tests. This all changed when I entered high school and I faced the reality that I was actually going to have to study and spend time on schoolwork. My first semester of high school was rough because never in my life had I studied and now I was faced with copious amounts of homework and weekly tests. My first semester I ended up getting B’s for the first time and even a C and I was heartbroken. I remember sitting there that whole winter break after receiving the exam grades and thinking about how bad the rest of high school was going to be. I then realized that instead of complaining about this obstacle in my life…
