According to the Candace Roy article, “the civil rights movement was an era dedicated to activism for equal rights and treatment of African Americans in the United States.” During this period people came out on the street and rallied for their rights and cultural change. In my eyes I think this movement was not only important, but also necessary because the amount of discrimination and racism that was happening during this time period was unacceptable. The question was, did the Civil Right Movement affect people and the society? Yes, it did because after many protests for equal right and rallying across the whole country people were recognizing the injustice done to black people and now the African Americans will not stop until they have their right to equality in everything. For example, the African American were allowed to sit with the white on the bus for the first time because of all the boycott and peaceful protest done by many organization and black people. An article “ The Montgomery Bus Boycott” states that “The Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted for about 382 days and the Supreme Court of the United States had declared unconstitutional the laws requiring segregation on buses.” This overturns of segregation caused numerous African American to fight for their rights in places like school and job positions.
