Essay On Taylor Challenge
Taylor Challenge provides the Gunnison eighth graders, with experiential learning in an outdoor classroom. The Taylor Challenge is an opportunity for the students to build personal growth and experience team building skills through activities such as, rock climbing, rafting, archery, ropes course and gaga ball. Professionally, my peers and I led the students in initiatives, as leaders, teachers, and role models they can look up to. On day one, their teachers assigned one advisory to each group of Western students to direct different initiatives. Day two we had all ninety-five of them to ourselves at one time. My participation in Taylor Challenge enhanced my professional leadership skills and gave me an opportunity to interact with older students. The coordinators positively blended the idea of the environment and learning. Simultaneously, …show more content…
Late September, I was referred to Eric with the chamber of commerce for volunteer work. I didn’t know what I signed up for, however was surprised by the six-hour volunteer position he assigned me. He offered me a position interacting with guests by watching for “hole in ones”, greeting, directing, serving and guests around the course. I found this volunteer work kind of nerve racking because Id never been on a golf course before and failed the golf portion of gym class in junior high. I still can’t understand the enjoyment of the sport, sorry. I was in charge of hole three, as exciting as watching a hole and talking to strangers sounds, I feel as though I began to appreciate the strategy in the game. If the player got a “hole in one” they won a free trip. I would greet guests and answer any questions they had for me to the best of my knowledge. Most of the golfers were good players with the exception of the younger group that had been sauced up toward the end. My take away from being involved in a golf tournament is to not be in

On April 11th, I went to Lafayette Recreation Center to teach 4th and 5th graders about the Lemonade Day. However, the beginning of our trip was not that satisfying. For some reasons, our bus was not prepared that our team had to wait almost an hour in the sun to figure out what we can do. Some students from our team decided to take a cab to arrive on time to keep our promise with children and the others had to go by deans’ cars. Because we were in a car, a small place, we not only discussed about the Lemonade Day but also was able to get to know each other deeply. Luckily, our team was able to Lafayette Recreation Center on time safely. As planned, our team was divided into four different small groups to teach children effectively. Four small groups rotated to teach different children with different materials. After teach children successfully, we were able to get back to school on a bus. In the bus, we discussed about what we liked or disliked about teaching children and how it differed from what we imagined.…

Paul Taylor envisioned the possibility of a life centered system through the workings of two concepts. The first concept being the good, or well-being, of a living thing. This concept entails doing what is necessary for the welfare of nature. It does not necessarily mean that you are doing what makes nature "feel" good but more of that you are doing what is best for it, ensuring it will still be around tomorrow. An example of this would be to capture several endangered animals in order to breed them in a controlled environment. While the animals that are captured may be miserable while being held in captivity, it will ensure the species fate and also aide in keeping control and stability in Mother Nature for many years to come. Something else…

This course works to help students become engaged in the community and work to fulfill President Fry’s dream. This course pairs each student with an organization that is in the immediate area around Drexel, and the type of service varies from class to class. I felt that it was important to include this course as one of the main ways that Drexel is civically engaged because it helps teach students about the needs of the community and allows them to become a citizen of the surrounding area. I have personal experience with the Wright Recreational Center, one of the partners that works with Drexel. This is an after school program that allows for the students to interact with Drexel student, receive help with homework, and have some fun in the gym. This has been an eye-opening experience for me because it demonstrated the importance of getting involved in the community through the smiles and laughter during my short experience. The kids were ecstatic that Drexel kids would be helping them, showing how much a small gesture could really make on someone else’s…

Thanks to my mom's relationship with the center, I have heard many amazing stories about the teams and the students that participate in them. She raves about Mars Rover and Solar Car teams and how they break down barriers, solve problems, and build things that nobody else could think of. I’m also interested in how the teams blend all different students from engineering, art, and business to build real-world, problem-solving teams. Competing in that environment would be an honor and hopefully, help me bring pride to the…

This is my last year in middle school and I would like to spend some of my time participating in what Emerging Young Leaders has to offer. EYL’s workshops alone can help build on some valuable life skills. According to, National Center of Education Statistics, “Extracurricular activities help students engage themselves in school and their work.” If I were to be in this program I would not only be able to engage in school work, but will be able to develop skills that will not only help me now, but when I am older. The leadership skills that these workshops teach will be useful years from now, even after I apply for jobs, and am striving to get a promotion. I will be able to feel comfortable taking charge in whatever situation I am put in and that will make for an excellent candidate.…
