Essay On Speech Language Pathology
After I received my B.A. in Speech Language Pathology, I decided to take a year off from my studies. I felt the need for rest and refresh myself in the non-academic world before continuing on to graduate school. Fortunately I was able to secure a position working with severely autistic children as an Applied Behavioral Analysis instructor. Not only has this position enabled me to make use of my undergraduate training, but I was also exposed related professions that I had been unaware of. While there are many aspects of Speech Pathology that I’ve enjoyed using, I discovered (much to my surprise) that there are other aspects of my position that I enjoy even more. This has caused me to rethink my original plan to pursue an master’s degree in …show more content…
I do not want to settle for and work a job that I will eventually grow to hate. I do know that I definitely want to be involved in health care in some capacity. One of my co-workers, who is currently pursuing her MPH at GW, has been encouraging me for several months to look into GW’s public health programs. I did not consider taking her advice until months later, when I had the opportunity to eat dinner with a woman who shared some amazing stories about working with non-profit organizations and traveling around the world. She has been doing a lot of research on infectious diseases and nutrition in the developing world and has been developing nutrition and treatment programs. It seemed like really meaningful and rewarding work. When I asked her how she got into the career, she said she had an MPH. She also put me in contact with two of her friends who also work in public health. One has worked as a project manager. The other is a policy analyst on Capitol Hill. I really could picture myself doing this as a career because it involves identifying needs and problem solving - which is something that I do feel drawn

Those in the healthcare profession are respected, hardworking individuals who went above and beyond to prove themselves capable of helping others in the greatest way possible. My career goals are very straightforward. I’ve taken several steps in high school to accomplish these goals by being well disciplined in my studies, and participating in a Health Careers Internship Program. This program offers me a variety of opportunities that make me a more applicable in a healthcare setting. I’ve learned how to build a strong résumé and cover letter, and how do professional interviews well. We also get the chance to observe and participate in a medical environment. I’ll be shadowing with Dr. Steve Carr at Northern Star Therapy and learn the basics of physical therapy. I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. My hopes are to complete my undergraduate in there in the Pre-Medicine program, attend graduate school, and specialize in a currently undecided field of…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

As a child growing up, I have seen aunts; uncles and cousin pursue a career in the medical field. So as I got older I wanted a career in the medical field too, but as a registered nurse (RN). I love watching TV shows on people who was there to help others in the time of sickness or an emergency and I can see myself doing that because I like to help others. I even started a local community college and took classes towards the nursing program; I got pregnant and did not go back to college. Until now, choosing a career in the medical billing and coding showed me that it is less school, can earn a certificate or associates degree, how much a person can earn for a living through a year, how you can work in a building or work from the comfort of your home.…

Throughout those three years, I have gained knowledge about medical terminology, various types of medical careers, and participated in many community service activities. While learning about the different health professions, I found my own passion to want to become a clinical dietitian. I have always been intrigued by promoting health and wellness. During days I would be free, I would research the web for information about gluten free-foods, vegan…

A career in the healthcare field may be a logical choice to many because of the pay or the general supply of jobs available, but to me I want to be a part of this field because of its sense of community and the aspect care. My ultimate goal is to become an Ultrasound Technician and to eventually get a degree in another related health career. I plan on attending Oregon Institute of technology, since it’s the only school in my state that offers this. If I have the power to gain more knowledge, then I will pursue this broader perspective even if this means becoming a Nurse or a Medical assistant, I will work hard to give back to my community. I understand that I don’t have the finances to attend a school that offers this career, but I have the…

Hello Dr. Aaron Oberman and fellow classmates. I’m excited to be taken this course because I’m almost at the finish line of completing my degree. I have been working in social services for almost 15 years helping adults meeting their needs while aiming at becoming self-sufficient. I enjoy my job, but I’m burned out, meaning my job no longer brings me the same satisfactions as it did 15 years ago. I reevaluated my life giving consideration to my age, family and happiness and decided it was time for a career change. As an undergrad student, I recall an instructor telling us in life most people will have a job and a career. Social Services is currently my job and school counseling will be my career. With age I have learned helping others…

As a youth group member, I was lucky enough to get the chance to go to New Orleans in the summer of 2011. During my stay, I was able to help others in a way that changed my life. When I was helping serve food, picking up trash, and helping to restore a church, I looked at children and families who were receiving that help. Their faces were priceless. It was like they won the lottery. Helping young and old, children, and families who were less fortunate than me, made me realize that I want to help people in some way when I grow up. That’s what made me want to pursue a career in health education after I graduate.…

When I transferred to Queens College in Fall 2015, I was a dual major in elementary education and psychology. It was at Queens College that I realized I had a strong interest in the psychology field and learning about disorders and various treatments available. I took an intro to clinical psychology course in the Fall 2016 semester, and I enjoyed having practice exercises, helping and treating a "client". I am currently taking Psychological Disorders of Childhood, and am learning about various assessments and treatments targeted for children. My education courses were also beneficial because I got to volunteer in the classroom and I got to see the issues students were really facing. It was a great precursor of what is to come in the counseling…
