Throughout American History we have seen and discussed racism,but what does being racist really mean? I believe that anyone who judges someone based on skin color, culture, or religion differences is being racist. This can be seen through how African Americans are treated differently in the court of law and social aspects. When it comes to the topic of racism, most of us will readily agree that it is an ongoing problem in society. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether or not there is a practical reason behind it. There are black people today that are making a big difference on society and are doing things just like some white people are doing. For instance, Viola Davis is a black actress who just won an emmy for a role she played in a movie. She has been a positive figure for younger generations to look up to and follow. There are also several famous black athletes and singers that have a positive influence on generations below them and that set a good example. These people are not just role models for the black community but are also for the whites too. Barack Obama is another good example of an African American that does not fall under the stereotype; he was our first black president. Throughout history black people have been making an impact on all of society in America. It started with Martin Luther King Jr., who spoke up about what he believed was right and what needed to be changed.
