On the current assignment I chose the Swift’s A Modest Proposal to write about. The reason I chose this topic it caught my attention of selling children to the kingdom for food to clean their street of beggars. I will be giving my opinion on the author’s way of cleaning the streets of one kingdom. I must really say “WOW” after reading this proposal.…

The ending of “A Modest Proposal” came of great surprise because throughout the beginning of this article Mr. Swift gave perception of a person that was clearly upset with deplorable conditions of the quality of life in Ireland. Where constantly spoke about the vast number of poor people either aged, diseased, or maimed; that had been dying daily due to cold, famine, filth and vermin at a rapid rate; or about the greedy wealthy Englishman that didn’t care about Ireland. So Mr. Swift offered the remedy to this problem was to take the younger population no older than one years of age and offer them as a nutritive meat or skin could be made into a pair of female gloves or men shoes.…

“PLATOON… DISMISSED!” said the platoon sergeant. Without skipping a heart beat a platoon of 45 marines responded “DISMISSED, I SIR!” They all took one step back, they smartly raised their right arms with elbows at a 45 degree bend, their fingers joined and aligned to the tip of their cover rendering a salute. The platoon sergeant saluted the platoon back and returned his arm back to his side. In unison the platoon about faced and let out a thunderous “00H RAH!” It is payday Friday, two days of liberty waits with no signs of the typical angry Staff Sergeant or at least until Monday. There is no greater feeling of proudly serving this country, but getting paid in the process is definitely a plus. Being a single marine stationed in Beaufort, SC living in the barracks at the rank of E-4 with more than 3 years of active duty service makes a gross monthly income of 2,094 dollars (DFAS). A single marine’s married counterpart with the same rank of E-4, with the same amount of active duty service makes the same amount of monthly income, but he or she also receives an extra 1,179 dollars a month known as BAH or basic allowance for housing (VA). How is that fair to all the single military members of the United States? Other than supposedly finding love, what makes being married special in the military? The U.S military is the only organization that pays more if one has a family. Congress should implement a new bill that would allow single members of the service the option of living off base or choosing the housing allowance to match the rates of married military personnel.…

Will Bury, an enterprising inventor, is convinced that soon everyone will be reading or listening to everything digitally, including books that have been mostly available in hard copy. He knows that there are books on CD, but these are relatively expensive and have been recorded using human readers. He also knows that there is technology that can transform the printed word into audio, but the sound is somewhat inhuman. Will plans on speeding up the transformation with a proprietary technology he has developed and patented. This technology takes the printed word for text materials and creates a file with the option of reading it digitally or listening to it with a realistic synthetic voice. Will knows that he has free access to books no longer under copyright protection, and he figures he can pay a royalty fee of $5 per title for copyrighted books that will greatly expand his catalog. So far, he has limited himself to English-language books but is working on a language translation option as well.…

The late 1600s and early 1700s in particular were a difficult time for Ireland. Catholics made up most of the Irish poor who constituted 80 percent of the population and owned less than one-third of the land. As the Protestant English landowners took over in the 1700s, the Irish Catholics dove deeper into lives of famine and poverty. In “A Modest Proposal”, Jonathan Swift presents several claims and supporting evidence that the consuming of the Irish nation’s growing number of children will solve the poverty epidemic as well as decrease religious enemies.…

Patient safety is very important to the healthcare provider, healthcare facility or organization. One area that continues to be a safety issue is mislabeled or unlabeled specimens. Mislabeled specimens happen for a variety of reasons but regardless of the reason the outcome can be devastating to the patient, family, provider and institution (Intermec, 2010). Mislabeled specimens are not intentional…

When I begin reading Jonathan Swifts, A Modest Proposal, I was confused as to why any human being would even think about offering others’ children to eat in an effort to reduce poverty, as a suggestion. Though I disagreed and was a bit confused, his argument had some very persuasive points that held truth. Jonathan Swift was born to an affluent Irish family; he was an ordained minister, very well educated, and became increasingly involved with politics in his homeland as well as England in 1713. People have overlooked the epidemic threats in Ireland for many centuries. So a simple solution to the economic problems of Ireland’s poverty would not suffice. Swift needed something that would grasp a certain audience, something that would open ears of all the wealthy and rich. Desperate times often call for desperate measures, and proposals of desperate measures are often met with immediate criticism if they are found to be irrational and unorthodox. He emphasizes the financial, and economical benefits it would provide nevertheless cutting down on the common beggars and thieves.…

Jonathan Swift’s, A Modest Proposal, is a satire about the social, political, and religious positions of Britain and Ireland. In this Swift proposes that children, at the age of one years old, should be sold and eaten, and their skins be used to make profitable products. He supports this claim by stating that this would help society because it would provide food, and take starving children off the streets. Also it would discourage abortions, and men beating their pregnant wives because they child would become profitable. This proposal highlights Britain’s exploitation of Ireland. Also Swift underscores England’s barbarity by using a narrator who offers a rational, and reasonable sounding solution to the problem of Ireland’s crushing poverty. Swift exposes the immorality of English politicians who made policies that made them rich while leaving everyone else hungry and poor. The rational view of the narrator satirizes the Enlightenment’s view of human society as a…

Jonathan Swift’s 1729 essay “A Modest Proposal” demonstrates how the writer uses satire to enlighten the reader on the critical state of Ireland, at that time. In the essay, Swift suggests that the poor should sell their children to the rich so that they can “contribute to the feeding, and partly to the clothing, of many thousands.” Swift doesn’t simply want the poor to pay attention but wants to point his chagrin towards the politicians as well as the catholic citizens. Swift wrote his essay during a time where there was political and religious turmoil in Ireland, using sarcasm and extreme exaggeration as a way to point how hypocritical these institutions are towards the problem.…

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

    What is Steganography?

Genetic algorithm based method of message hiding employs the features of both Cryptography and Steganography to provide high level protection of secret information .The developed system generates the CRC of the message to be hidden, compresses it to achieve faster speed of transmission and asks for a JPEG image which acts as a carrier of the message. The compressed message is then embedded into JPEG image by P01 algorithm using a secret key at the sending end, hence generating a crypt-stego JPEG image. At the receiving end, the compressed message is extracted from crypt-stego using the same secret key which was used for embedding. The use of cryptography along with genetic algorithm makes the proposed “Crypt-Stegnography” technique more secure and maintains privacy and secrecy of the message. Genetic algorithm maintains appropriate peak signal to noise ratio of JPEG images which results in lesser probability of detection of secret message. The use of P01 technique ensures high embedding capacity. The experiments carried out through the developed system proves higher embedding capacity and maintains secrecy of data.…

Action research is either research initiated to solve an immediate problem or a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a "community of practice" to improve the way they address issues and solve problems. There are two types of action research: participatory action research and practical action research. Denscombe (2010, p. 6) writes that an action research strategy's purpose is to solve a particular problem and to produce guidelines for best practice.…

The purpose of this proposal is to address the condition of our private landing and propose a reconstruction solution. Every camp owner will benefit from this as our current landing is in dire need of repairs. The constant rise and fall of the Mississippi River over the past few years has played havoc on the parking area and if not addressed will only get worse. I am concerned with the progressing deterioration of the landing. If we choose to do nothing, it will not be long before we will be launching our boats at the public landing down the street. I have prepared a proposal including a detailed list of what we can expect to pay and if the majority can agree, I can have this project completed just in time for when school lets out in May.…
