This is because humans have a natural craving for power and control. The drive for power throughout human history has been something that, while it may work out for whoever desires it for awhile, will cause the eventual decline of a person's moral standing. Not only is power something that makes one feel superior to others, but it also changes the way one thinks. Sadly, it can cause a person to filter information and events to make them pertain directly to their success. Power ends up being an attitude that will consequently make the mind deteriorate, and cause a person's morals to consistently grow lax.
