“When you have police officers who abuse citizens, you erode public confidence in law enforcement. That makes the job of good police officers unsafe” ― Mary Frances Berry This quote could not be any more accurate during these past few years. Time and time again we have seen how police officers have used their power in ways that they shouldn’t. Due to this, society has lost all trust on police officers making the job of good officers unsafe, like the quote stated above. It is obvious that there will be corrupt cops, society wishes it weren’t like that because the duty of police is to protect and serve their community, but due to how society is nowadays, society understand that there will be corrupt cops. The problem comes in when officers are not properly punished for what they have done. This is the main reason that society has been causing an uproar because they feel that officers are being allowed to get away with the abuse and misconduct against society.

Most citizens might not understand exactly what defines police corruption. Police corruption or corruption in general is any dishonest or illegal behavior (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). There are many different forms of police corruption but we will be speaking on the recent police brutality against our citizens. I am pretty sure police brutality has existed for years, society just never really heard of it because they made sure they did it where they weren’t seen and also technology was not how it is now. Now, people can just pull their camera out and record the injustices but still this is not enough. Nobody really wants to believe that a police officer who is supposed to protect us and our children would be capable of harming
