Essay On My NCS Experience
Throughout my education, I have taken part in a wide range of activities. Including assisting with sports day, school shows, mentoring GCSE students and participating in Debating Society I believe has helped me develop basic advocacy skills. In Autumn 2014, I took part in the National Citizen Services; this empowered me to develop leadership skills. I gained valuable skills in life such as public speaking, teamwork, communication skills and community service. I feel that my NCS experience not only provided me with many skills that are key to success at university but in addition gave me the certainty and confidence to go and take part in other opportunities. For instance, I talked about my NCS experience in front of the year 11 students at

As of now, I am a senior at Cass Technical High School. In addition, I am also the Command Sergeant Major for Cass Tech’s JROTC program. As the Command Sergeant Major, my duties include being the standard bearer for our battalion’s cadets, and leading our drill and color guard team. Besides that, I am also an active volunteer within my community and school. The last event that I participated in was earlier in the school year as the lead cadet of a concession stand at a college sports game in order to raise money for my JROTC program. Also, I have been a service learning project coordinator for a project that had the purpose of aiding the homeless citizens of Detroit. Nevertheless, the project’s goal was to provide food and hygiene products to…

Another situation that I was made aware of was that families needed food and it surprised me to realize that there were kids in need of food that lived near me. I come from a fairly wealthy town and had not realized that there were so many families that lived near me in need of food. I cannot imagine being a young child and have to worry if my mom or dad was going to be able feed me dinner. This experience made me realize how important it is to donate to the local food pantry. Citizenship will be very important in my career because if you want to get good publicity for a business it is important to help the community. Citizenship will be even more important to me as a person because volunteering has a way of making me feel like I am helping making a positive change. When I get into my career I plan to donate to food pantries often because this experience made me realize that not all people have the means to support themselves. I actually plan to start volunteer at the food pantry in the summer because they seemed like they could use some help and the volunteers were very gracious that I was helping them out. I learned through this project that not…

    NJROTC Reflective Report

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

Throughout my high school experience, the one memory I remember the most that helped me the most would have to be the time I interned at a local non-profit, Lettuce Live Well. I decided that I needed to encounter more challenges in my life; as if my life wasn’t challenging enough. I decided to work with a non-profit because I knew I would get all the experience I can get while getting to work head on with the local community; this was what made it all worth it. The one place that I found I can get the most experience while still connecting with the local community was an organization call Lettuce Live Well.…

I have been active in the two Middle School awareness clubs, like Zero Tolerance, and the now defunct Cultural Awareness for Everyone (CAFÉ). In Zero Tolerance, we have collaborated each year to make a public service announcement that shows the middle school why bullying is very damaging to students and a school, and especially to such a tight-knit community such as this one. In CAFÉ, which unfortunately was only around when I was in 6th grade, we went to all of the advisories and gave presentations on topics such as the disadvantage of stereotypes, and why we shouldn't base things on stereotypes. A last thing that I bring to the Academy is my citizenship. I have been good at leadership all my life, and I think that I am someone that classmates feel that they could lean on, that they can count on me. I also can be a reliable source for information. I want to keep doing these things and add some service as I continue into the Upper…

During these activities I enjoyed giving back to the community which I live in and plan to continue to give back more to my community and other communities. Ultimately character to me is represented through a person through great characteristics such as responsibility, good behavior, reliability and much more. I personally believe that I am a representation of character, as a fact responsibility is something that I find to be very important to me because people such as your teachers and peers will always count on you. As well as having responsibility being reliable to my peers is something that I care much about. Being reliable to others isn’t just helping others through judgement but helping that person with rational advice which represents how much you care for them. Lastly good behavior is something that I personally strive for everyday from following the rules to being respectful, I feel like I’m doing the correct thing but I also feel like a role model to others. The National Honors Society is represented by Four pillars that represents the success of many students like me that are passionate in what they are doing and that want to become NHS member to succeed in the future not for themselves but to share it with others and change the world one step at a…

PTSD is not a pleasant experience for any man, woman or child to experience, it causes them to fear doing some of the most basic functions a person should do. Riding a bus can be terrifying to a man who survived a car crash. Being in a relationship can be horrifying to a woman who has been subject to rape. It can even cause a child to completely shutdown from reality for fear of just not knowing how to deal with these nightmares caused by abusive “guardians”. Its deadly to the sane mind, it causes people to not be able to forget memories that they would most certainly never want to experience ever again. But the strange thing about PTSD is that it isn’t consistent, for example, the man we spoke about earlier, the car crash victim, lets say that there was another man driving, and where as the man who was driving was injured, the man who wasn’t driving and wasn’t injured, yet the driver didn’t acquire PTSD. Common sense would dictate that the driver would be affected with PTSD, but for some reason wasn’t. This is the strange thing about it…

Not only did I feel proud for making interdisciplinary connections when explaining things, but I was also able to support my friends. My peers would walk into math tutoring completely clueless, but would walk out offering to teach others the material. The excited yells of kids who received As on tests for the first time was worth more than anything else I could’ve done in my free time. Beyond that, I realized support is a universal need. By believing in my peers’ ability, I helped them overcome hurdles that had been there for a long time. Most of all, contributing to the community wasn’t about the hours I put into it, but rather the effects that my service had. My actions can protect the future from the chaos of potentiality.…

The moment that signified my transfer into adulthood happened just recently. Since 8th grade, I have been a part of truly incredible academic-service organization called Beta Club. Beta Club has taught me the values of being a leader by serving others, and it is from this “servant's” mentality that has made me a better person. Moreover, it has given me countless leadership options as I served as my middle school Beta’s president. Then, I was elected as my high school’s chapter president, and this is where my moment of transition truly begins. Each year, the state Beta Club hosts a convention in Greensboro, where you can compete in events or run for state office. The state convention was like no other event I had participated in, and ever since I attended my first…

In my community, I have displayed a great amount of service. In school, I am a peer helper during my P.E. hour to help the kids with disabilities perform P.E. like any other high school student would. I also went to a prom for kids with disabilities at my church as a date/escort for one of the kids. Over the summer I worked as a respite worker for a week to help a young girl with Down syndrome at a church camp. Also, one of my favorite times of the year is when I get the opportunity to volunteer at the softball Special Olympics. Because a lot of these kids and adults do not have the ability to perform these tasks on their own, I become a dependent companion for them to lean on. I show my leadership by doing what is right if someone were to make fun of them, and treating them like I would treat a friend. This all wraps into the patriotism for our country. I do not do these actions to just call myself patriotic; I do it because I enjoy to and believe that it is my duty as a good…

As a reluctant and nervous nineteen-year-old, I walked in to my first day as a nurse aid to a brightly lit, and mostly bubble gum pink Women’s Service’s unit. I worked there through nursing school; and happily accepted a job as a nurse after graduating. Nine years, and a lot of joy, tears, and learning in between, I continue to call this place my home. There is much satisfaction in being part of the continuum of care of women and families during the antepartum, labor and delivery, and the postpartum period, as well as the care of her newborn baby, and for some women, before and after gynecological surgeries. This mostly happy area of practice is not immune to tragedy, and the to have ability to be with a family and counsel them in their…

Community College education is something that helps me every single day. It has prepared me to write this very essay. The biggest volunteer service I have done is to volunteer for the United States Army. I am loud and proud to be a part of the greatest fighting force in the world. Through education it has made me even better at my military occupation. I have recently been promoted to a Sergeant. My education has made this possible with the qualities and knowledge I needed to get there. Recently, my unit asked me to give a presentation at the High School I attended. I knew I was qualified and prepared through my community college education. Especially because I was in Public Speaking at the time.…

I was hospitalized for three weeks at Seattle Children’s after enduring emergency surgery to remove a rare tumor in my large intestine. What I figured was random stomach pain was life threatening. Since I have endured so much in my life, it is not easy for me to be emotional. When I found out that I needed surgery in a mere few hours I did not know how to process my emotions. Being in the hospital taught me that I need to take what may seem meaningless as something that could be serious. I learned to face emotions instead of avoiding them. Throughout the time I was at Children's Hospital the nurses played a vital role in not just my physical, but my emotional recovery. Nurses take the responsibility for your life, and give hope that you will recover. The nurses that I met had deep and powerful relationships with each patient and played a valuable role in all measures of care. Nursing is a career composed of leadership, integrity, and non-stop learning. As a patient I was able to observe over 30 nurses and their interactions with other patients. It inspired me that one person can have such an astonishing impact on numerous people. As a future career, I hope to be a registered nurse at Children's Hospital to assume the role that I so admired of my nurses.…
