Music can be a very important part of many people's lives. No matter who a person is they most likely can not say that they do not like any type of music, there is something out there for everyone. The censorship of music should be re-evaluated because the impact of lyrics can be both positive and negative, the artist of said music have certain rights, and in most cases, the music itself is not the cause of issues in teens schooling.
At least 40% of kids in the U.S. listen to music at least 11 hours or more a week (Fanning 1). So, with so many people listening to music what could possibly be the harm? The government should have absolutely no say in what we as a society listen to due to our freedom of speech. There are positive impacts like giving young people the courage to stand up for themselves when in situations that may contain sexual violence. Teens may also be given the courage to go through everyday life, it may even make their life better. Music can not be censored because we as Americans have right that were given to us, and in those rights is the freedom of speech. Music should only be censored if the lyrics are directly bullying, or threatening somebodies life. And lastly, music should not be censored because even though there is a correlation
