What we define as a prosperous and successful society can be accurately in statements such as the Greek proverb of "planting trees for shade we shall never sit in". This is to say, that truly showing our prowess as magnificent human beings can be categorized in the endeavors of others, our fellow man. The fact that we, as individuals make this choice out of our free will to help and provide for one another is a beautiful sentiment that etches into our history and our souls as prosperity. However, there is also the discussion of choice when it comes to the notion of community service. Should this be an optional endeavor that individuals alone should have the governance over? Or should it be a mandatory institution that forces us entirely as a society to help one another. For one, forcing a man to work does not bolster his character, but only serves to leave a sour taste out of force. Man with an excellent sense of being proactive are individuals helping one another out of the goodness of their own heart. A good deed is not an action taken by threats of punishment, but by the choice of avoiding another's personal ailment. On top of this, we have the benefit of living in a free society where one another are entitled to manifest their own destiny. This includes endeavoring to help all of those who appeal to you, or not and simply living your own selfish existence. These are all valid options because they are held to the standard of choice, the pinnacle of a good society. The discontent in the mandate of community service can be seen in source five where we can observe that students who are not given the choice of whether or not they are given the choice.
