Essay On Long Term Care

If one should ever visit a long-term care facility, one may come across numerous employees; whether it be the administrators, the nurses and their nursing assistants, the social workers, etc, it is easy to note that all employees play a vital role in ensuring that the nursing home may run as effectively as possible while maintaining the health and security of the residents. Of the numerous staff within a long-term care facility, the medical director may be the most important in regard to the diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical needs and conditions of the residents. With responsibilities ranging from physician leadership and education, patient care, ensuring quality of life and even as a communicator, being employed as a medical director can without a doubt be beneficial to the long-term care facility (AMDA). Currently employed as a medical director with Fulton’s Helping Hands Care, my job duties and responsibilities are practically endless. With the well-being and over-all health of the residents my main concern and top priority, one of my main responsibilities would be to assist the facility with developing various policies and procedures which may be related to patient care. For example, according to the article “The Medical-Legal Responsibilities of a Dialysis Unit Medical Director”, there is the case of Szymanski v. Harford Hospital in which the medical director was found to be in breach of standard of care in regards to the patient monitoring within a dialysis unit (474). The article goes on to state that the medical director was found to knowingly under-staff the unit, resulting in infrequent monitoring of patients during dialysis; without mentioning, the consequences of the medical director’s actions were of course reflected upon the patient’s health
