Character Analyst of Lady Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare in 1606. Macbeth stumbles upon three witches who give their prophesies of him becoming the Thane of Cawdor and later King of Scotland. Macbeth knows he must acquire his reign by doing anything he can to achieve his foretelling; however, his wife, Lady Macbeth, is pushing the matter more by testing his manhood. Lady Macbeth was a very intriguing character. This paper will deliberate on all of the aspects about her character and her motives, including her morals, ambitions, and desire for power. Historically, relationships now differ from this period of time. Many now will not seek advice from their spouse; however, Macbeth always called upon his wife for her perspective. Macbeth’s wife was the first to receive a letter from him when he was absent. When Lady Macbeth had received the letter from her husband, it stated that he had met with witches who had foreseen his upcoming power of the throne. The witches stated, “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor. All hail Macbeth that shalt be king hereafter” (Macbeth Act 1, Scene 3, Line 46-48). From that scene, Lady Macbeth said a silent prayer telling the spirits to “unsex her”. From this point, all Lady Macbeth wanted was power, and power only. Lady Macbeth and her husband began plotting King Duncan’s death. After discussing the topic, Macbeth decides that they “will proceed no longer in this business”
She has more of a mindful motivation, while he has a more spiritual, due to the witches. Not only is she ambitious, she is very cunning. As soon as she persuaded her husband, she knew that their plan to kill Duncan would proceed and their power would form.
