Work Environment To become a welder you would need a high school diploma or equivalent. Even though there isn't college I would need to train first. Training ranges from a few weeks of technical school or on-job training ranging to several years of technical school. I feel that I would be able to do this because I like school. One important skill needed is spatial orientation skills. You must be able to read, understand, and interpret two-and three-dimensional diagrams in order to fit metal products correctly. The skills I have match the skills needed because I can read, understand and interpret. Another skill needed is physical strength needed in this career. Welders must be in good physical condition. They often must lift heavy pieces of metal. The skill I have match the skill needed because I can lift heavy objects and heavy metal. There are different qualities for welders to work for
