Essay On Becoming A Criminal Justice Officer

The Academy of Criminal Justice at Newberry High School has been my focus since second grade. Since then I have known I wanted to pursue a lifelong career in criminal justice. Becoming an officer in criminal justice will help prepare me for this goal. An officer should be a good leader and every day I work towards that by following The Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
The trust character is a priority for me because trustworthiness is important to each of the other pillars. If you don’t have trust you have nothing, if you’re not trusted the other pillars mean nothing because you cannot be respected, have responsibility, be fair, be caring, or be a good citizen without the trust of the person
If all people were respectful the world would be a better place. Peace is important to me so I try to handle situations in a peaceful and respectful manner. This is important even when you don’t agree with an opinion or action one must remain respectful and accept we are not alike and that’s a good thing.
Responsibility is next, I work at being responsible in all my roles in life. My goal is to be a good responsible role model, I work towards this by being self-disciplined and accountable. I take responsibility serious which will help me be a good officer.
Fairness is an important trait as well, so I live by the Golden Rule, I treat others the way I want to be treated. I am a good listener and resect other people’s opinion and choices even when they are different from mine.
Caring is also a priority for me because I always want to help people. I am often described as kind & compassionate. I realize that not all people are as fortunate as me. Over Christmas Break I collected coats, blankets & personal hygiene products and took them to Grace Marketplace. I encourage others to do the same it really gives you a reality
