Essay On Atticus A Good Father

Was He a Great? We read To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. Many people have their own opinion about Atticus, one of the main characters in this book, and the way that he acts. My personal opinion about Atticus is the way that he treats his kids and carries himself is awesome! He is a admirable person in terms of parenting. Atticus did many admirable things in life ranging from deciding to do the right thing and defend Tom Robinson to giving his kids advice about life at such a influential age. Even though Atticus may have made few mistakes as a parent, in the long run he was a great father. Atticus did many terrific things in this novel as a father other than slight mistakes he might have made. When Atticus said “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” --Atticus (pg. 30) that was really foreshadowing the story towards Tom Robinson and adds to teaching his kids equality. Also, the fact that he even stood up for Tom Robinson as a white man defending a black man is greatly teaching his kids to not care what anybody else thinks or says and just be your own person. That is a quality that many people and children are
For example when he is busy with Tom Robinson's case and struggles to spend time with his kids. But I guess that was to be expected since he is a lawyer working for one of the craziest cases in his town’s history. Atticus was not a very good father at the time when the hearing was happening because his kids were at the hearing and Calpurnia and Atticus didn’t even know where the kids were. His kids also could have potentially been killed when Bob Ewell was drunk and almost stabbed them but was luckily stopped by Boo Radley. These are all some signs of neglect towards the children but these times were times that Atticus couldn’t really help
