How does one achieve the title “the Great”? Does it mean great in a specific area of life, such as an athlete or a conqueror, or a great a person, or one that leaves behind a great legacy? Can one truly deserve to be called great from every frame of reference, because for every conqueror there is the conquered? In the case of Alexander “the Great”, from a multitude of people’s points of view, he was a great conqueror, but he was also egotistic and an alcoholic that did not deserve an overall legacy of greatness. Numerous people, such as members of the Persepolis society, that Alexander “the Great” conquered considered him Alexander “the Devil”. Along with the soldiers, Alexander left behind after he conquered cities, which resulted in Hellenism, his army left behind immense architecture and sculptures. The purpose of this was to remind the people of his conquered lands that his empire was an unstoppable power, that could quickly create architecture and sculptures, that no others could. His engineers were far more innovative and advanced than any others at the time. They had the ability to create structures like an enormous amphitheater, where a whisper could be heard from the top row. This left those he conquered in awe of his powerful empire and to marvel at how advanced it truly was. By creating Hellenism and leaving great cities like Alexandria behind after his reign of power, Alexander “the Great” left a legacy like no other man. After his death, the city of Alexandria began to flourish and turned into the leading city power on the world stage. Great minds from his empire congregated in Alexandria, resulting in innovative, astonishing structures. The Lighthouse of Alexandria and the collection of all the world's knowledge, the library of Alexandria, made the city the most advanced of its time. All of this happened because of what Alexander did, by conquering cities and blending culture. His extremely impressive accomplishments set up a great future for his empire. This allowed Alexander to be worthy of the title
