Essay On Adult Nursing

Studying the nature of Adult Nursing means far more than just an academic course studied for a number of hours a week. It is undoubtedly an integral part of the society we operate in, as adult nurses are considered to be the backbone of the healthcare system as they promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with their illness. For me there was no sudden intervention, no following in the footsteps of an admired parent or relative into healthcare but a progressive awareness that nursing would be the perfect career for me. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from my innate desire to help others and care for them. I am a person who likes facing challenges and I always set new goals to achieve, so nursing suits me as it opens doors to new learning opportunities and at the same time it is extremely rewarding.

During my time there I really enjoyed talking to, caring for and developing a relationship with the service users. The experience genuinely helped broaden my perspective; it enabled me to focus outside of myself and my own little world and it made me realise I wanted to be in a profession that helps people. At the care home I acquired skills essential for comforting people who may have been restless and I was also able to control stressful situations in a confident and calm manner. To gain further insight into the nursing field I also obtained work experience at Darent Valley Hospital. This invaluable opportunity enabled me to observe the nurses' interactions with patients in the wards and how they cooperated with the doctors. I was presented with the opportunity to shadow a nurse in the chemotherapy department where I was able to see the way she comforted the patients and their families and the way she educated the patients about their next step to better health and
