Essay for Upenn
The College of Arts and Sciences at UPenn provide more than the immediate exquisite architecture and an inspiring atmosphere that molds a sense of belonging that is captured by an individual on his or her first moments in Pennsylvania. Beneath the sediments and moments of happiness and strife founds had to endure to establish such an institution, lies a foundation that dwells in the significance of academics and education. Learning is not a one-way street. America is a melting pot of a spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, priorities, and passions. I would engage academically at the University of Pennsylvania by advocating the cultivation and understanding of diversity. Of the four undergraduate schools, Arts and Sciences stands alone in being the most colored by covering a vast array of contrasting studies. It is captivating to bring the reasonings behind someone’s choice of major to surface. Education is the only life long friend to not stagger, dissipate, nor disappoint. She is the only peer that can bring the courage and adventure to create and understand beyond what is bedridden in the comfort zone. She is the only companion that guarantees opened doors. Not only as a student, but as a human being, exercising my right to think is vital to my existence. It makes me an individual while placing me suitably within a cultural group. I am who I am because of what I know. Diversity is the offspring of knowledge and I would be more than honored to share it with

I believe that the state should not by itself have the power to declare war on another nation or country without the consent of the national government. the reason behind why I think this is because I believe that the government itself has enough power to keep the branches and there paper works in order and to do what is needed and expected of them to do nothing easel over that or under. I also believe that we south Carolinians if we do not like what north Korea is doing we should just stay out of it unless north Korea brings us into it and the reason I think this is because, us south Carolinians declaring war on north Korea just because we don’t like what they are doing is pretty stupid to me. When I think back into a time in my life when I felt like an outsider not many events come to mind. One in particular does rein clearer than the others though. That would be when I arrived at my first duty station while on active duty in the United States Navy. The thought of leaving home for the first time was completely nerve racking. I had no idea what to even expect. I felt for the first time in my life I had to do something alone.…

The article “Red Flags Before Santa Monica Shooting, But Pointing Fingers is Hard”, by Gloria Goodale states the need to raise awareness in schools, workplaces, and families and teach people to identify red-flag behaviors. Such signs can include a change in behavior, an interest in violent weapons, strange writing, feeling hopeless and the desire to hurt someone. People can be trained recognized behavior before incidents happen, but there are challenges, because it could discriminate against people with mental health problems. The article “Colleges Are Watching Troubled Students”, by Jeffrey McMurray, mentions how many colleges and universities began monitoring and sharing information about troubled students after the Virginia Tech shootings, to prevent crime and violence on school campuses. School officials created a “watch list” of troubled students and decided whether they needed professional help or if they should just kick them out of school. Both articles are similar because if “red flag” behaviors were spotted early on it could prevent those students from harming themselves and others.…

America’s education system seems to be getting more costly as time goes on. These days, it is rare that a student graduates from college without being thousands of dollars in debt. There are many different areas of study that a student can choose from, and each college has its own curriculum. But, even given the rising tuition costs, it is still worthwhile to pursue a liberal arts degree. Students who study in liberal arts schools are open minded and versatile. They are also more attractive to employers for hiring, and are more likely to progress within their careers. Liberal arts students are also formed to be individualists who beat at their own drum. Although the cost of attending these institutions is rising, the opportunities one will…

My academic goal management plan that I set for my English 111 class has been a benefit for my grade and myself. Before I set the goal of pushing out an A for English 111, I had a C in the class. I still do not have an A yet I have a B, but it is progress. I also set a goal that requires me to accomplish a 4.00 “GPA” by the end of the semester. I am not there yet, but I am getting close as I approach the end of the semester. Goal setting has impacted my English grade, because it gave me a sense of urgency. Goal setting kept me focus on the big picture, which was to complete this semester, ending with all A’s. Goal setting also steered me down the rights paths; like a “GPS” system, it made sure that I did not…

I have become fond of the liberal arts education The College of Charleston offers, which emphasizes exploration into all areas of academia. An example of this would be the honors history courses that interest me, as I enjoy learning beyond my focus of science, and into other areas that create an appreciation for society’s diversity. One of the many aspects of the Honors College I find engaging are the academic opportunities unique to the Honors College that allow students to develop in their major interests, but also diversify their knowledge in all areas, as the academic requirements extend from calculus to western civilization. The opportunities the Honors College extends to its students are what make it appealing to me, and my experience so far in college has led me to believe that I am the right fit for the Honors College, as it would help me develop as a person, and help me achieve my…

I am incredibly honored to be one of the exceptional students who received an application for the National Honor Society. This organization does fantastic things within our community, and I believe I can contribute to the impact that has been made over the years. I have been looking forward to this opportunity since I learned of the organization in middle school. I think that I qualify for this recognition because I have worked exceedingly hard to get to this point. The National Honor Society considers students with distinguished grades and unique qualities, I believe that I possess both important aspects.…

Perhaps the most pivotal point of my education has been the diversity I am surrounded with. Attending one of the best high schools in the state has exposed me to vast diversity which challenged my beliefs and led me to mature faster than friends at other schools. For example, in one of my classes, the person on my left is Indian, the person behind me is Jamaican, and the person to my right is Bosnian. Cultural diversity is just the beginning. I am surrounded by some of the most talented people I have ever met who can make provoking art, choreograph beautiful dances, create city-wide magazines, win the Siemen’s competition, and much more. Diversity within education is essential to the growth of students. Being surrounded by people who think, act, and talk like you doesn’t teach students perspective. That is why I am grateful for opportunities like the Porter scholarship which gives talented students an opportunity to get scholarships and contribute to the diversity of the University of…

I really enjoy commuting via Amtrak train whenever I go to visit my sister in Killeen, Texas. It’s a wonderfully exciting journey that lasts about a three and half days when departing from my home in Baltimore, Maryland. There are stops aplenty along this journey; it goes through: West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, finally Texas and my final destination. In the same way, our lives are journeys, each goal successfully attained prompts us to stop, evaluate our course and ensure our present path is in line with our intended destination. What are my long-term professional goals and how do my academic aspirations factor into reaching them successfully? What solutions and tools have been provided in this course, and how will they help me obtain and reach my life goals? I believe this course has been the beginning of not just my academic experience, my professional career, but my life journey.…
