The Sydney suburbs of Pyrmont and ultimo are located on a peninsula on the western side of darling harbor. In earlier days the two suburbs ran along Union Street. Now the Pyrmont-Ultimo peninsula is a long strip of land known by locals that it is ‘into the deep waters of Sydney Harbour’. Beginning in the early 1800s the Pyrmont-Ultimo area was once occupied by many ‘blue-collar’ workers generally known as manual labour workers, the area was surrounded by industrial areas or the waterfronts. Since then there has occurred significant gentrification of old industrial sites and decayed buildings occurring in the Pyrmont- Ultimo peninsula, with the old buildings and sites being transformed into residential, commercial and community sites. I wanted to write you this letter because now the Great War is over and there are some topics that I wanted to address, and, since we haven’t talked since the war started, I wanted to make sure that you know that I am okay. As you most likely know, I’m still living and working in Washington County, Virginia. I haven’t had much involvement in the war efforts myself, however, I am waiting for my husband’s return from fighting in Europe, or a letter saying that he has passed away. Since he is gone, I have had to take care of the farm and work a low-salary part-time job, which has changed my everyday life a lot.…

War has always been and will continue to be a life altering event for the people of its time. While only the soldiers may be at battle, the world continues to be at war, and as a result, people change. It is greatly debated how and in what mannerisms does war force people to adapt. In Timothy Findley’s, The Wars, there are several examples of how humans adjust to accommodate the unfamiliar effects of war. Often, what is unfamiliar is unknown, and what is unknown can be chaotic. Keeping that in mind, it is without a doubt that war changes people by creating an environment of chaos. Through the effects of confusion, corruption of individuals, and destruction of societies’ standard structure, it will be proven that war changes people by catalyzing a chaotic atmosphere.…
